@ArcaneEye I should finish it with "else set @showdetail = 0" and leave it for the next dev who comes across it

Virtual Russian Roulette

RIP. We will remember you.

I can understand any kid saying stuff like this...it's the grown adults at work who I've heard say these exact words that worry me
-
Ya, feels a bit sketchy...it's like someone walking up and introducing themselves to you by saying "Hi, I'm not a serial killer"
-
I knew Chuck Norris had a devrant account!
-
@Hu-bot0x58 of course he does, people can make whatever decision they want, it's his life. Nobody is telling him what he HAS to do anything...I just feel like using your less favored .net language seems like a relatively minor thing, I'd be more interested in what I got to build and put on my CV than which language I had to use to do it
-
Throw a bootable kali linux on a flash drive and watch a few youtube tutorials on it, there're all kinds of pre-scripted stuff that can be run, the basics are a breeze. It's tough to master, but scary-easy to get started on.
-
Same...a small part of me misses the beginning of my career where the tasks I was given could be finished in a day and I felt like I accomplished something finite every day...now shit just drags on for months with only a few opportunities a year to do my victory dance
-
You're turning a job down solely because you'd be using what is basically only a different .net syntax..? I guess the real question is what is more impressive/important on your CV, the language you used or what you accomplished with it?
-
aesthetics over functionality IS apple
-
I hate that shit, Norton antivirus does that too. I just uninstalled it recently because it kept quarantining my fucking projects, doesn't even care if you exclude certain folders
-
Offer a few kind words of encouragement, and perhaps a stress ball if you have one lying around
-
I wonder how many WK99 rants this teacher is indirectly responsible for
-
How is anyone supposed to know "why" that is happening without seeing your CSS? I don't think anybody is going to be able to know exactly what you've typed so far and then tell you why it isn't working just from looking at that picture.
-
Every single login or db question I see on stackoverflow has shit like this, it's scary to think these people are out there coding things we might be using...
-
I've never preferred one format over the other and have never understood the pious devotion to either of them. They both work, so I've always simply followed whatever convention was already in place at the company or within an existing project...they both seem easy to read to me, so why does it matter?
-
what a bunch of newbs...i can create bugs without even touching the source code. i need only a fleeting glance at the monitor, and the whole fucking program implodes
-
Did that at my first programming job during like my second or third week...but with the users' passwords. Thank god we had frequent backups for that database. Lesson learned, auto-commit is off, using transactions for any updates, and I ALWAYS write the statement as a select first, and then just change everything in front of the where clause...
-
*tears start*
...
*slow clap* -
That's exactly how I felt when I first started. Then to make things worse, I forgot a where clause on an update in my first few weeks. Amazingly, I was forgiven instead of fired, and I became much more knowledgeable and comfortable very quickly. Keep your head up, and congrats on the new position!

sucks when you forget your seizure meds huh

First, use an OleDbParameter so people can't inject sql...and unless you really intend to set the label text multiple times you don't need to read the first datareader in a while loop. Also, since you're selecting by id_no, the "txtidno.Text = dr.("id_no").ToString" check is unnecessary. But, to the problem at hand...I can't see the rest of your code and don't know your table structure, but it seems like you should just be joining the two tables by id_no or using a union with distinct since it looks like all you're looking for is the student's personal info. If you really need to iterate two datareaders at the same time, you might need to use two separate connection objects. I haven't used Access in a while, but I know with Oracle that will throw an exeception, and same for MySql unless you enable MultipleActiveResultSets. Sorry if that came off like a stackoverflow post lol

Fucking fantastic...clickbaiting has made its way into the real world.
-
That job probably comes with a pretty unusual benefits package

XD

If you don't want a whole game engine but want some support for creating 2d/3d textured objects and controlling perspective/movement, OpenGL might be worth looking into
-
Back to work from yesterday and feels like I forgot how to code
-
I hate dipshits like that. Have one at work in Purchasing. He "knows a little bit about programming" (read: knows how to use the sum() function in excel) so he feels entitled to tell us what is/is-not possible, how things should work, and how long they should take.

"About the Company"...what a clusterfuck of buzzwords
