Recently just hired as a software engineer right out of college. Only three days into the job and I feel like I'm way out of my league. Is this normal?

Yes it is. Also, as you get into the groove of things, you'll bang your head a few times. Don't be discouraged.

To be honest on my first day as a junior when i got home I threw up it was a very stressful few months

That's exactly how I felt when I first started. Then to make things worse, I forgot a where clause on an update in my first few weeks. Amazingly, I was forgiven instead of fired, and I became much more knowledgeable and comfortable very quickly. Keep your head up, and congrats on the new position!

@calmyourtities huge difference between impostor syndrome and not being prepared for the job which is completely fine tho. OP just needs more experience.

Its normal OP, just learn as much as you can and give it your all. Eventuallt everything starts to make more sense.

Don't be afraid to ask a team member to walk you through a section of the code base!

I'm still feeling that way after a couple months, they just put me in charge of a small project and I have no idea if I'm capable so I'll just do what I can and see if anyone gets annoyed at me 😆

Yes. The first two months of my current job I thought to myself on a daily basis "I hope they don't find out that I don't know shit" and "I CAN'T DO THIS!". Later I learned that everyone there thinks he/she doesn't know anything about the stuff :)

@paranoidAndroid seems you embraced your paranoid nature 😄
Everyone at my work seems so confident in what they are doing and I'm just here doing a second commit after every commit to fix the bugs I cause 😅

Completely normal, I was exactly the same when I started out.

Just don't panic, concentrate on learning as much as possible each day and don't be afraid to ask for help if you find yourself stuck.

    You'll be fine :)
