its two years since ive told a story here but lets go.
we got a new client, who is revamping their infrastructure. i gave some tasks to 2 dev ops guys (i am not devops). they were primarily bash scripts that needed to be altered. (ofc i can write scripts it takes a moment, its their jd)
after a week of chasing them around, getting no result from them, i end up doing it myself because client needs it and the company needs this client. for one task, they told me it does not apply to the component we were working on. (it did, and i did it)
we have a meeting with higher management, they asked me how did i implement it, i show my entire working, my backtracing etc (everyone knows this is how you approach huge system, component focused strict deadline task). it was infuriating how they approached it by trying to understand complete system in one week. i asked them why they hadn't taken component specific approach. they said they tried but failed because..
[this because is the whole reason for the rant, because i believe this because should be a fire-able offense]
..because we were not using VS code to find things in files

ARE YOU GUYS GETTING THIS?5 -
Wrapping up a project, I am cleaning code to give the customer the source code. The project had lasted over a year. I joined the team a few months back and it frustrated me how messy the code was. In my previous teams, any new resource was told to stick with the rules, and eventually they became embedded in them. The case seemed opposite here. Developers who wrote clean code became lax (they made me even more pissed).
Now I have the job of getting rid of warnings, formatting issues etc and I do not say this lightly, but, there was no fear of god in anyone who worked on this codebase. The code formatting I have seen makes me wanna...5 -
It's 6am and I've already started my work day because I am my most productive first thing in the morning. When they debate against WFH and flexibility, they don't talk about how different people feel more awake and present at different times. I know devs who work better in the dead of the night. 9 to 5 in office just ain't it.7

Joined a new company and the first few weeks were a complete bore (didn't have access to anything). Ended up wasting time instead of using it elsewhere. Now that I am swamped with work I've the sudden spark to learn every skill I thought I should pick up. Does this happen to anyone else? Motivation comes only on busy days.1

If a developer was having a slump (unable to close tickets, find solutions, get mind to work)
What could they possibly do to fix it?6 -
I like the clicks of mouse, the taps of keys, sound of central cooling, the low tone conversations but if someone near me is in a long meeting and constantly talking, I NEED my headphones with music blasting

still can't believe someone actually hired me as dev and then multiple companies tried poaching me (one tried twice, another tried four times)
what are they all on3 -
had been working from home and that was my plan for today as well but got called to office on a MONDAY for some hardware related stuff and guess what? the stuff related to it isn't here. thanks
IT1 -
Starting my day with 15 emails that I urgently need to respond to. I hate Thursdays. It's just meetings and emails and more meetings and more emails. No time to get work done.2

Today I decided to take up the task (a growing pain) my team had been putting off for some reason for a while, and safe to say seeing it getting cleared has been satisfying1
-
everyone's having a bad monday because daylight saving kicked in and everyone's calendar is now messed up (employees in different countries, some's daylight saving kicked in, some's didn't)1
-
slacked off on friday on something i had to deliver. did it today in about two hours just to get done with it. motivation is weird4
-
is coding amnesia a thing? i ran into an error few weeks back and today when i ran into it i completely forgot any knowledge i had of it2
-
it's monday morning. ofc the first thing i do is open devrant to see what hell monday is brining on others.
-
My number of issues resolved per sprint dropped since I have been switched to a new project and I feel it's gonna bite me in my arse1
-
i burnt 3 fingers on each of my hands cooking yesterday(picked up a lid with bare hands) and have butt loads of coding to so let's see what wins14

I have not worked all day today and have only attended meetings. Going to call in a half day since I am in a total unhealthy (cheese puffs and fried food) kind of day today and have just been in my bed binge watching.8

I have personally struggled a little with CMake always. I usually have to take help from some senior dev. Today I was able to figure something out on my own so this is an achievement story. Think I should treat myself with a book3
