@Lensflare Yup. They seem to be very popular w/ the kids.

@Lensflare Splendid. You've reminded me of this old, hilarious bit about blackberry:
https://youtube.com/watch/... . -
Yup. It sometimes does seem like people just want a human combine that does all the things, while also offering the lowest possible payment possible. If they knew how to compromise, they'd be able to find good employees who know their stuff.
-
SSDD.
Present a bunny to them - they don't break the bunny's neck, they're good.

You can never really tell. Even after years of knowing them. It's just that the likelihood of them being bad gets smaller the longer you know them, that's all. -
My spider sense is telling me there's a dirty ad spam in the vicinity...
-
That's sadly true. IT can be very stressful. It can also be very exhausting mentally-wise. There's a lot of data one needs to process.
...provided one is good at their job && wants to keep up w/ all the newest trends, processes, && whatnot. -
@cafecortado Hahaha. You better be behind closed curtains while writing such perverse code.

I hear accidentally deleting DB in production is good for excitement.

Perhaps switch to Kotlin. Supposedly functions are `fun` over there. -
@jestdotty Fortunately it's !every game company that has this approach, but it happens.
Also, there's a lot of reimaginings, remakes, && remasters nowadays. Sadly many studios are scared to create something original, so they rely on reselling things that have already been made.
Good thing is that there are still good studios producing new, exciting games, so !all is lost. -
@Lensflare Completely agree. It's hard to come up w/ purely original ideas nowadays. Indeed, many great things have been created by taking one idea && then modifying it somehow.
Those instances are OK.
Sadly, there are times when people want to do a 'reskin' of sorts. No improvement, no revision, no spin. A direct 1:1 copy. That is just disgusting. -
It's OK to be inspired by something, but when you can't even be bothered to come up w/ your own ideas... That's just insulting.
-
@whimsical > 'Rust is for men who like men.'
Backdoor sex joke, eh? If they exercise proper hygiene, they won't get dirty.

Estimates...
-
Good outcome.

@Lensflare That's very true. There's a lot to consider. A lot of pitfalls.
I think that particular intern had some experience w/ multiplayer code. He was an intern because he was a university student at the time.
The lead programmer was dealing w/ the engine, physics, && probably something else, so the whole thing in the beginning was very terrible. -
@Lensflare Absolutely no clue. This was done in our other office in another city, so no idea how they ran things.
...the idea was retarded, though. Putting an intern in charge of things. No wonder things went south. -
@princess Have you seen 'Silicon Valley'? HR woman didn't do so well, when she suggested a scoring system to rank employees. There was sound logic why it turned out that way, you know?
-
@princess Weird how you see that as a confrontation. Somebody calls me a pufferfish, I tell them "Don't call me a 'pufferfish'". I don't go to HR to complain that said person has called me that.
-
@princess Here's where we are different. Men don't tattle. They settle the score by themselves. Men are direct, as well. They confront the person directly instead of doing that in a roundabout way.
-
@princess Going to HR to complain is like going to your parents to tell on somebody. Kids do that, whereas adults should never do that.
-
Sounds like at least some of the testing should be done by the QA. As far as being reprimanded for fuckups - shaming in public environments is OK solely when a person is a repeat offender. The first few times should be done in private settings alone.
-
@netikras PL.
-
@retoor > 'That's why friends call my PowerPonyLineDancer. And my pronouns are po/ny.'
Made me laugh so hard. -
@netikras Indeed, I miss those white winters from my childhood, too. Although here, in Central Europe, I don't remember the temp. dropping to below some -15 C, maybe -20 C.
-
@fruitfcker True, but it's kind of a reminder that we all can fall victim to such thing. All it takes is a combination of detrimental factors such as fatigue, inattentiveness, haste, etc.
-
Would be interested in knowing, as well.
-
You read about this one, too, or just a general statement?
https://thehackernews.com/2025/09/... . -
@bittersweet had some interesting rants.
-
Well, it never was funny. It's very sad, actually.
-
@whimsical Ah, got it. I was fairly close, though...
