I have once worked alongside a programmer who had this in his signature: 'Señor Programmer' written in the white font on the white background. He was a senior so it was both appropriate && humorous.
Ditto on the prompt, long live Bobby Tables.
But the LLMs scanning emails is kinda sickening. -
Hmm... Had similar experience fairly recently. A long time ago I had encountered an issue, but instead of blindly reporting it I checked the bugtracker, sifting through the terribly written legacy reports, && found that _very_ old report about the bug, so started ignoring it since 'already reported'.
Recently a New Hire found the issue. The Lead Tester ponced like a cheetah that saw a prey.
LT: "That's a bug - report it."
NH: 'Done, ready for review.'
LT: 'Looks good, well done.'
/* Mandatory pat on the back. There's a lot of that in the current team... */
Me: * Leaves a comment *
'This issue duplicates the already reported $report.'
Felt good. Was also fun to watch them scrambling in the chat.
LT: "Damn, looks like we've reported a duplicate." -
We're talking bugs, cheats, DLC, or something else? From the description it sounded like one of the first two.
-
Sure, getting the rest is important. Wouldn't mind hearing a dumbed down version of what the issue was later on, though.
-
> 'Of course, for those of us who have the deep fundamental skills in their fingertips, this isn't such a problem, and that's where I want to get.'
Precisely. -
Props on getting a new job && congrats for getting one where you enjoy the work.
Sorry to hear that in order to meet the unrealistic deadlines you need to produce subpar code.
!sure what can be the reason behind the insane deadlines, apart from the design changes && designer dragging his feet.
For me, at my first job, it was the boss who would promise people unrealistic deadlines, which in turn would often result in us doing overtime. -
The word 'toxic' has become one of those overused words, much like 'epic' several years ago.
- Story 1: doesn't appear to be problematic, _but_ it could depend on the issue. Was it a major one or a tweak? Either way I'd say the maintainer has every right to choose the direction of the project. As for the fix - the reporter was able to fork it, so he's happy, I guess?
- Story 2: > 'A user asked a simple question that didn’t have an answer online'
I'm guessing 'online' would be the proverbial manual, so telling the users to RTFM would return null. Maybe there was a specific reason why they didn't want to share the information? As stated, could also be fatigue. Maybe way too many people had been asking about that?
All in all, both examples are fairly vague. It's hard to weigh in properly.

@jestdotty That's a shame. I bet
```
would've looked so nice in the code. -
@retoor's bots at least provide some funny comments, thus providing value. These spam-bots, however...
-
A good motto.
Laundry, vacuuming, same things as always.
Will probably vary for different people, but lately 'Does it make sense?'. I hear it when someone wants to push their retarded ideology onto me. -
I'm guessing this perfectly mirrors your experience: https://youtube.com/shorts/... .
Found it purely by chance. Just popped up in the feed. -
Yay, Old Tech!
... yeah, became obvious from comments about IPv6 in https://devrant.com/rants/19326649/... . Will be patiently waiting for the fix. -
@jestdotty !sure whether you're joking here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... .
-
@jestdotty Qualifications for menial work are very low.
-
@BordedDev If, for some reason, the server's been setup to be IPv6 only, that would explain it. I can't change the setting as you could, though. NordVPN doesn't support IPv6, yet.
-
@CaptainRant !funny, then.
-
@Lensflare It's sadly true about the games. W/ all the 'Deluxe', 'Premium', 'Ultimate', && whatever else version is out there. Content being purposefully cut so that it can be sold at extra cost. It's sickening.
I remember when 'Expansion Pack' meant something. 'Diablo HellFire', 'StarCraft Brood War'. Those gave you worth for your money. -
> 'my best bet is to go back to crypto trading. or just run out of money and go be homeless somewhere'.
Well... you have another option: just find _any_ shitty job you can get so that it pays the bills, while also looking for something in your chosen profession.
I was presented w/ that exact choice - all money that I had saved was almost gone. It was either going broke && homeless, or getting just about any job. I chose the latter, had to suffer for about half a year as a production line worker at a factory. It sucked horribly, w/ a minimum wage salary, but it gave me the time necessary to find something better in my actual profession. -
I've been in this boat as a manual game tester for pretty much my whole career. I could probably count the times when I had been given enough time to conduct all necessary tests using fingers on just one hand.
I've taken the approach of just presenting people w/ the findings as they are, so I present them w/ what passes && what doesn't. At that point it is _their_ decision whether they want to assume responsibility for releasing the product w/ those known issues.
My responsibility starts && ends w/ providing detailed reports of bugs found && verifying the fixes are working properly. Anyone that wishes to ignore an issue, I always want their 'Won't Fix' or equivalent in the report. -
@BordedDev Yeah could be the VPN. But then, why the e-mail hasn't been delivered? Proton did mention 'Connection timed out' as the reason.
-
@CaptainRant >'Nokia 3310 devs are working on it.'
Hilarious.
Guessing you have /* or had at the time */ no idea what I was talking about. -
'Works on my machine', eh? Well, !for me. Anything '*.molodetz.nl' fails to load the whole day. Ditto for https://molodetz.online/ .
Doesn't seem to be just my problem, either, as the e-mail bounced back w/ error:
'Your email could not be delivered for more than 12 hour(s).'. -
Wait... Have I just read that the DLC model has been adopted in cars, too? Fucking hell, how much extra for the 'premium safety' package a.k.a. seat belts, maybe even "Don't Die Deluxe" airbag installment service?
/s -
@retoor In fact, seems to be a domain problem.
-
I'd think it's human nature to want easy. Selecting path of least resistance.
Sure - it's !the case _all_ the time, but for the most part, yeah. -
Hmm... This video popped up for me fairly recently:
https://youtube.com/watch/... .
The guy had at least a few good takes, like the fact that they train those using all the code - the good && the bad. You might be seeing the results of that.
Could be something entirely different, though. -
@retoor I put a pin in it.
-
I happen to know that maritime industry was corrupted like that, at least some time ago. In order to get a job one would have to pay the recruiter.
Could've been some isolated incidents I've heard about, though.
