Everyone I know uses spaces instead of tabs in Python. In fact, PEP8 says uses spaces instead of tabs (https://python.org/dev/peps/...), with the community using four spaces per indentation level.
If you're talking about pressing the spacebar instead of using the tab key to insert spaces, then that deserves a wk99 tag. Otherwise, your coworker is correct. -
Reminds me of the Acer Predator 21x, albeit smaller.

@lazyDev *most browsers; the developers of Safari decided that having a shortcut to automatically add '.com' is stupid.

It's like Word's track changes feature, but more complicated and for code.

I use the open-source synergy-core between macOS and Linux. Works fine, though I had to adjust the include statements on the Mac. The only downside is there's no GUI, it's command-line only.

As much as I'd like this, I can't help but think it'll end up like this if it's a standalone service...
For the most part, Meetup handles this and allows developers to explore other interests. -
16:10 in portrait. Widescreens and extra-wides are good if you're a designer or artist. Anyone who writes should be using a portrait monitor (or several) and the extra width from a 16:10 is a massive improvement over a 16:9.

@runfrodorun And that's why I'm a biologist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@runfrodorun So...
2c'+1 where c'==c+2
2(c+2)+1
2c+4+1
2c+5
Therefore: sum(c++, c++) == 2c+5

Am I the only one who liked Metro? Best design language, in my opinion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

I'm trying to get High Sierra installed on my X220, haven't gotten it working yet :/

CLI can stand for either. The term "command-line interface" has been around since physical terminals were a thing while"Common Language infrastructure" came to be around 2000.

Not the most intuitive suggestion, but try social dancing, specifically lessons. Assuming you're like most STEM -oriented people I've met, you'll find you have a knack for it. Swing, salsa, tango, and ballroom are my suggestions (in that order).
Here's why I think this is good: you're usually given a pattern of foot and arm movements to learn for the lesson. STEM people, in my experience, seem to have an easier time grasping these patterns than other people, so it won't occupy all of your attention. Everyone at the lesson will be learning the same movements, so there's already common ground for conversation. You'll be dancing one-on-one, and I've found one-on-one interactions easier than groups. You'll also be rotating between partners, meaning you get to meet new people every couple of minutes.
Plenty of practice with introductions, re-meeting people, and common goals/awkwardness make for an excellent way to practice social interactions. -
@Hedgepig The UK is an economic and political union consisting of the countries of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The member countries share a government, primarily for all national and international relations, and an economy and currency while retaining some degree of autonomy for local matters (varies by country). Great Britain is an island on which the countries of England, Wales, and Scotland are located. The British Isles are a series of islands, including Great Britain and the island of Ireland, in the North Atlantic.

@MichaelJJames @Kaji @kolaente As much as I love Wunderlist, I wouldn't rely on it too much. Microsoft is pushing Microsoft To-Do as a replacement for Wunderlist, though the former is nearly useless compared to the former. Knowing MS, I'd bet that Wunderlist is killed by the end of 2018 without a proper replacement.

@AlexDeLarge In the comic, the man is holding up two fingers, or two ones, or 11. Converting the binary number 11 to decimal yields 3. That's the joke in the comic, hence the binary tag. Your reason in index 3 is invalid; you're reason for index 2 seems completely irrelevant to the post.

Bioinformatician here, I write for desktops and compute clusters. All of my works is in Python, R, or C++ and mainly targets macOS or Linux. If it works on Windows as well, then yay.

@Crazed @nikolatesla What about a self-taught developer with a degree in microbiology? Where do we fit in?

@darkShadow07 I agree with what @runfrodorun says. I got a used ThinkPad X220, added an SSD, and upped it to 16 GB of RAM for about $500. Battery life isn't stellar, but it runs like a champ and handled everything I throw at it. Furthermore, it's nearly completely upgradeable, so if one part does, you can just get another. Or, buy cheaper upgrades now and get better parts later.

@anekix Those are monitors in portrait orientation. It looks like those are 16:9 and the video is spanned across all three. To get that effect, you need a dedicated graphics card as most integrated graphics cards don't support monitor spanning. I use 16:10 instead of 16:9 as the former a little bit wider than the latter, and it makes a world of difference.
-
Two Dell U2415 monitors in portrait (vertical) is my recommendation. These are 16:10 rather than the standard 16:9, so they're a little bit wider in portrait than normal monitors.
-
I run dual Dell Ultrasharp U2415s in portrait. If you go vertical, 1920x1200 is much nicer than standard 1080p monitors. For development purposes, I find this setup much nicer than ultrawides. If you spend a lot of time looking at tables or spreadsheets, it's also really nice for spreading across both monitors (unless you have a Mac, then you can't because Mac won't let you). For design or entertainment, not so much.

ThinkPad X220 with Ubuntu 16.04; looking to upgrade to a T470s

I use two 24" 1920x1200 16:10 monitors in portrait. Highly recommend.
