@mtverlee thanks!
-
@mtverlee Oeehh can I join too? My email is klis.kevin@gmail.com
-
@li@linuxxx soo when is it starting and where can I see your progress? :D
-
Well yeah it has some problems but I like it because, if you want to, you can write clean code in a OO way but you can also use it for quick prototyping.
I've been using c# and dotnet core for the last half year and I just can't get used to it. I know it's because I'm still learning it but sometimes I just want to quickly try something out. Instead, I am wasting time defining every fucking object and forgetting to initialize a variable or some other dumb thing and then the compiler crashes which takes up even more time.
Wow this just became a mini rant on its own sorry :') -
@linuxxx ah thanks!
-
Ohh sounds interesting! Will you be posting the link in another rant?
-
@Divisionbyzero @core maybe I should have said deployment because ftp is generally seen as bad practice for deployment and git or svn as a good practice
-
Since when did they start using metal band logo's as captchas?
-
@Cyanite ooh boy that's a tough one.
I guess it wasn't the interview itself but the aftermath. I applied for a supermarket job and I had the "interview" together with 30 other people. When the interview was done they told us we had to call them to know if we got the job or not.
But apparently they gave us the wrong number and when I called I got some very angry lady on the phone who started yelling and cursing at me because she thought it was some kind of prank or something because she already got called 15 or so times.
It took me another 15 min to calm her down and explain what probably happened. But in the end I got the job so I guess that's a good haha
How about you? -
@Cyanite noooooo and I even clicked the tag popup thingy :(
I guess that's another bad practice, not having my morning coffee before doing anything -
We do at my parttime job, just simple cheap WordPress websites, always more trouble than it's worth because the client always wants more for the same price. I'm trying to change it but it's a long process ¬_¬

I used to be in a study for design (wanted to do something with games) and then out of nowhere I got a letter during the summer vacation that I was successfully unregistered (unlisted/fired don't know the correct word sorry).
And because I didn't really feel like trying to get back in, my father and I quickly sought another study (you can't leave school before you're 18 here).
And I sort-of accidentally got into a programming study (last resort kinda thing).
And I fell in love with programming during my second year, being able to build something from scratch is awesome. Then I went to college doing Business-IT (development and project management) and I just love the idea of building something that solves somebody's problem, going to the bottom of what there problem actually is and trying to fix it.
I just love the challenge of it all
Sorry long story 😂 -
@nblackburn hmm maybe you're right haha, I've been really nice to them this morning and so far so good
-
@linuxxx haha then I guess you'll be glad to know https://ishetalkoningsdag.nl is now secured too!
-
@linuxxx oh yeah I tried it out on another domain so I would know what I could expect. But it works now!
It's hosted at Versio which is nice for cheap hosting but it's on a shared hosting account which is a bit limiting (no ssh access and stuff) -
@linuxxx well it only saves data about the acts, no personal data so I guess it's not that bad
But apparently my host supports letsencrypt so I just requested a certificate, thanks for the idea! -
For the first time in weeks I had enough time to do a little mini project so I built a timetable builder thingy for a festival I'm going to in a couple of weeks for my friends and I.
I stripped their data and design and added some JS to select certain acts and some PHP to save the acts to the DB so you can revisit your own timetable -
@linuxxx haha yeah kraantje pappie is a very specific ehmm taste
-
Wait just so I understand, the only thing that changes is the meternityColor/slimmingColor?
-
@calmyourtitties I think i used this one but it's been a while.
https://github.com/sanwebe/...
But maybe you could look at the options @nicholai provided, that'l probably be the best way to go -
@nicholai Oh that looks pretty sweet!
Yeah i have a student pack but I keep forgetting to look at the options in there. Ironically when I finally do have time to look at it I'll probably won't be a student anymore :') -
@nicholai but you can't run nodejs on a simple server right? I'm guessing he doesn't have ssh access or something like that
Sorry if I'm wrong -
I have done it once about 2 years ago, I used someone elses code I'll check if I can find the source when I get to work.
@nicholai is right tho, php is not really meant for such a thing -
@DoktorWer Good decision! But if you need some help Monday you could hit me up if you want
-
Export database, open in sublime, replace all old addresses with new address, import database and done.
(most of the times this works) -
Had something similar 2 years ago
A new client who owns a web shop wanted his frontend redone. Frontend and backend built in hieroglyphics and I couldn't understand anything. So I told my boss it's easier and faster to rebuild the whole website but the client didn't have enough money and only wanted the front end done.
So I finally finished the frontend 2,5 months later then planned because it was such a pain in the ass to build the new frontend and keep the backend working.
And of course the client isn't happy with the result and starts nagging en being a pain in the ass.
But a year later he wanted the back end redone (as I expected). So now I had to build a backend which was compatible with the shitty frontend because the frontend had to be compatible with the shitty backend.
So now about 2 years after the start of building the frontend I am about to deploy the new backend.
So much wasted time and money only because the client wouldn't listen.
Sorry if it's a bit long :( -
And then the inevitable git commit -m "Heck yeah! Finally!2" and "Heck yeah! Finally!3" 😂
-
Depends really... I enjoy it in some shows/movies like NCIS for instance
-
Been there a couple of times :/
That's why I always ask for a screenshot now -
@error13 yeah I tried that too... She did not like that :<
