I'm so sick and tired of the human dick head parade. Epic has us register for a fucking GitHub organization and people found a way to abuse the pull request and sending 300,000 close to 400,000 people notifications so now we're dealing with spam that's going out with random shit including someone ripping their ass hole open (picture...). Over 200 emails I swear to god. This is why castration should be legal.
Unsubscribed from one, someone creates a new useless PR.4 -
So sick of a flimsy/fragile dev environment. Introducing docker at any level just increases risks, I swear.6

Started working on the game I want to make. Decided to go through the android publishing and it took like an hour to get it all set up. CI/CD not easy with game engines either.

It's one of those nights.... works on my machine but not in QA....
Me:Remind me.... why am I a developer?
Coworker: because you're a maschist1 -
I'm expecting my StackOverflow questiion to get shut down and some mod to want to piss on my corpse ( https://stackoverflow.com/questions... ) so I'll ask this here too. Anyone set up the open source Jenkin in a DR environment? I'd like an Active/active hosting solution but everything I read points to Cloudbee's... Post your answer on SO if you want, I'll vote up whatever looks good, but in case it does get shut down by the assholes with a god complex, please @ me :)5

Weeks ago, a change went into production. For some reason, we can't implement our own changes or create new databases in production, we have to have a whole different department do it. This would be great except for one thing:
THEY CAN'T THINK FOR THEMSELVES. I've had to tell them how to run scripts I wrote. I've had to tell them how to fix problems that arise.
Back to that script ran three weeks ago or so. It didn't add permissions to allow me, the system and application developer to see the stored procedure, much less run it. Application can't run it. Thankfully the application works without it.
Fast forward to tonight. My change that I'm attempting to implement is the creation of the stored procedure, because nothing could see it, I assumed it didn't exist... reasonable, right? Database folks tells me it exists. They then tell me they can't give me nor the application permissions because it doesn't ask for it in the change plan.
Excuse me.... WHAT FUCKING WORLD DOES IT MAKE SENSE TO CREATE SOMETHING AND HIDE IT FROM THE CREATOR LET ALONE THE APPLICATION SO IT CAN'T USE IT?! FUCKING THINK. WHY WOULD I WASTE MY FUCKING TIME TO TALK TO YOU OFFSHORE PIECES OF SHIT AT 10PM WHEN I'D RATHER PLAY VIDEO GAMES.
I'm so fucking done with enterprises. Someone with reasonable job security at a startup, please hire me. You will probably pay me more fucking money than this company does anyway.
Now on to my second change of the night. Thankfully I don't have to rely on anyone outside of me... so I won't be wasting my fucking time. -
Finally successfully set up continuous deployment on a personal project. Ever, really. And on one of my few open source applications. Destiny Clan Manager... it uses the Bungie API to help you manage your clan on Destiny 2. Neat little weekend project. Made some changes today, and thought... why not. It's all using Azure.

Coworkers and I go out and do some golfing or batting cage every now and then.
Old friends from school and I talk randomly. On Facebook.
Most of my social life is twitch5 -
Rant about social media in general, including devRant.
I enjoy interacting with like minded people. What I do not enjoy is the whole degradation of the conversation at hand. Sooner or later, someone takes something the wrong way, addresses something this social network was not meant to address (it's devRant not Facebook), and the audience has a multitude of English as a #(rd/th/whatever) language human beings.
Accept that as the premise, and I think we could get along a lot better.
However commonly this fact is ignored. Understand the sentiment behind statements, not the statement itself. If any part of it is unclear, then request clarification.
Agree, disagree, civil debates one thing, but degrading the conversation to name calling or similar emotions only results in poor communication, useless emotions running high, and nothing gained.

I'm so fucking sick of auto pay bull shit. Auto renews, auto debit for bills... Fuck off folks. AWS just charged me 150 bucks and now it will cause my rent to be returned nsf because their shit only has ACH.
Fuck you amazon. Going back to my 7 dollar VPS. May be an outdated OS version andimited but at least I don't need lube to use them.5 -
Tried ranting about Javascript on my mobile keyboard. Typing an exclimation mark automatically put it at the end of the last word regardless of how many times I erased it. Wtf.... Did you just assume my context?1

Focused on debugging Javascript after being asked for help. Original developer narrowed it down to an if statement. It was acting like the if statement was assigning the variable and causing undefined. Tested console.log before evaluation. Tried !== instead of != and same thing. Even swapped undefined and variable so it would try to assign a variable named undefined instead... It took way too long for the both of us to realize the word "let" in front of the variable on the line withing the if statement block... It overwrite the variable the moment it entered the block.... FML.1

So far? Not realizing my load balancer was not set up for sticky sessions... and since this load balancer only existed in prod not in qa or CAT o found out the night we went to install it into prod...1
-
Just spent the better part of my day making our QA environment work and look like our CAT/UAT environment for a website and supporting web services that was built to look like 1998 puked on it. Wrong way people. Other Devs skipped QA due to external reasons (admittedly I was one) and never kept it updated... Everything from database comparisons to IIS configurations needed to be redone.

Promoted this last Tuesday. Went from hourly associate app Dev to application analyst. Apparently I skipped app Dev and Sr app Dev. Not the raise I wanted but still substantial. No change in responsibilities with high probability of substantial raise next year on the next budget. Curious though. Is app analyst always above developer? Titles confuse me.3

Find professors who aren't into this petty behavior and actually urges learning. I read to many rants about professors pulling rank over students because they find the student annoying. My professors knew I had expierence. They allowed me to explore topics that were above most people's heads. Never did finish my degree.

We're remediating tls issues on production servers. gotta be pic compliant. It's been an hour and a half for one server and were not even close to done... we have at least 5 more to go for this particular app... my organization controls over 300... the company has thousands... for the love of god save me.5
