I'm so fucking sick of auto pay bull shit. Auto renews, auto debit for bills... Fuck off folks. AWS just charged me 150 bucks and now it will cause my rent to be returned nsf because their shit only has ACH.

Fuck you amazon. Going back to my 7 dollar VPS. May be an outdated OS version andimited but at least I don't need lube to use them.

How about getting Ubuntu on that then upgrade using cmd?

@ilikeglue on the VPS? There's a type of virtualization that relies on supported kernels and am locked into a specific kernel version. So... For me to upgrade OS like that the VPS software has to support new kernels. And the version numbers aren't updated but rather bug fixes and security are back ported. Triggers failures of the upgrade beyond my skill level to repair

@ilikeglue Also, notably, the virtualization technology is why I switched in the first place. Additionally, the VPS provider I had wouldn't allow certain types of servers, like game servers or voice servers since they were typically targets of DDoS. Add the fact that my employer is dabbling in using AWS, I wanted to see how it all worked and there's little you can do there for free.

As far as I know, there is no auto freeze on auto debit. So, if you have set up a bi-monthly payment of $10.00 and somebody on the merchant's end keys in $1000.00, if the funds are available, the transaction is approved. This has happened to me and I marvel at the heroic lack of measures written into this that check and double check for the correct amount, and decline the transaction, while notifying the enduser. No, the enduser finds out soon enough when mortgage, car, daycare, you name it, any online payment is declined, racking up overdraft fees. Of course the issue is addressed after the issuing bank is contacted, but what about those who are unable to take the time during a business day to contact the bank?

@bols59 Yeah, I kind of figured this was coming. I upped the size from a 80 dollar EC2 container, and all that. i did this to myself. That's why I'm going to suffer and pay the fee's. Thankfully the debit card rejects anything I don't have money for, even on ACH, without charging me fees. However the fact that they don't invoice me and give me a week or two to pay it annoys me... they charge, if declined, turns around and tries again over and over until they get the money.

Considering the lack of use, lack of traffic on the sites, and services unused (Gitlab, 3 websites, some backend stuff for Twitch bots, which are unused), I just shut it down. Ultimately i wanted it to be a game server too, but my current obsession is Conan, which doesn't have a linux server at this point and I don't want to deal with Wine, etc.... so I shut it down.
