That's the essential effort of container technology. Docker, Ubuntu snaps, etc. It's a cycle though. In the before time developers came up with package managers, like yum and apt. Now every distro picks one. It will be the same with containers. One day there will be ten of them, and each distro will have their own lol

I wish I could harness the awesome problem solving powers and support of this community without all the drama. I know there are a lot of great people here. But that would just be cool mechanical stack overflow lol.

Until we have to pay for the license. Or when we get our licence revoked for a crappy reason. My fiance was trying to work at a salon. 500 bucks to take the exam to get her license. The whole reason behind that for medical and legal and stuff is because the laws change from place to place, not because it weeds it shitty doctors and lawyers. I'm happy not paying 500 bucks every time I change jobs or move.
-
@perotti I'll hopefully find my way around it. Sadly I'm not allowed to use any packages at work, otherwise I would just install requests like a smart person lol
-
As a note, I don't say this to be an ass. I say this as someone with a masters degree, specialized in machine learning and statistics. It's hard out there. I still can't get a job as a data scientist, because everyone wants really experienced players in that game.
-
Data science is such a flexible term. Probably because it's really just a buzz word used to describe someone who performs statistical analysis on large amounts of data, and performs some basic machine learning. So step by step:
Learn calculus statistics
Learn linear algebra
Learn python,
Tensorflow
Scikit learn
Pandas
Numpy
Learn R
Finish your CS degree
Get an internship
Eventually transition to a real job
Or if you have no CS degree, spend years and thousands on coding boot camps that will never get you a job. Or just get a degree in CS. -
@crayator spread the word!
-
@Chlodovechus sorry to hear that man. There's always next time!
-
2 most certainly. Ethics are man made bullshit we were fed to keep us in line. If you work for a company that makes nukes, it's better to build a better nuke then sit on your hands doing nothing. Thousands of people sit in call centers dedicated to ripping off your grandma. Decide you own code of mortality and live to the fullest.

They usually want you to conform. They tend to use one ide and want everyone to use it. However you could probably make a case for vscode like I did 😬
-
@Alkotronikk my biggest problem with atom is the speed. That and it can't open large text files without crashing.
-
@Crayons the best part about it is the specific features you get depending on the add-ons you can get. Each language essentially comes with a package of tools. I work mainly in Python, so it was great to be able to change my interpreter depending on which project I have, and pylint runs in the background, so when I don't write code to standard it tells me right away. Did I mention you can install the key binds, and usually the themes from your favorite editor? I have all the comfort of working with atom, with all the power of vscode. Give it a whirl, I promise you won't be disappointed!

A really nice chair, or a standing desk will really help. At my office i have to get up and walk around for 15 mins of the hour. I don't always, but it really helps when I'm hurting. Exercise really helps too. Don't just run, lift weights too. Lots of core stuff if your back hurts :)

Python is great for when programming. Lots of people will want to only use common gateway interface, which is harder than using a framework, but can do anything. I recommend learning SQL, and a framework like Django.

Someone has to be this guy. Have little trust of those who will ask you to do something for free to "prove" you can do it. Don't let them dick you. Make sure the person asking you to do a "small task" isn't going to leave you high and dry after taking your free work. I hope it goes well! Congrats!
-
Fair enough, not everyone is a scientist. But seriously, take lots of math if you are.
-
that's the same reason I teach the freshman Java instead of C or python. command line scares them away it seems.
-
yeah it's just user mode sitting on top on Windows. what I think I like the most about it, is CONONICAL is probably getting some major funding to make it work for them lol. means better Linux 😎
-
it's got a long way to go. maybe toss that out there as a suggestion to Microsoft.
-
i think it's cool. i can work on my c code between games without running a vm
-
lol!
-
test their loyalty. tell them you got an offer for better pay. if they counter offer to match or exceed it, stick with them in my opinion
-
if you have that student again next semester, make them all write their code on paper and grade it hard. there's a lesson in here somewhere.
-
sounds like a joke. some professors are funny. maybe not this guy, but some. just out code the boys and shatter his reality.
-
@sterex it's too bad I can't comment a photo. took the time to make it day guess I'll make a robot to fuck me.
-
I'm a mad scientist. I make robots see, and learn mostly. you know, the stuff people think is cool but also fear, because terminator.
-
lol!!! people are hilarious.
