A short bittersweet story.
Ever since I quit my previous job a couple of months and started working as a freelancer, I haven't felt the need to visit devRant.
Everything that's rant worthy is essentially my fault.7 -
I don't get it. We're looking for a web developer and we're getting CVs from a continent over from people with no programming experience or with no web experience. What is going on?
Like there's this CV is from a guy that only does C++ in Kuala Lumpur... We're in Canada.
No one is local nor qualified. I thought a Wordpress dev position would be easier to feel.7 -
Dad brought home a i386 based desktop with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 back in 1993.
Learned how to use basic command line to run video games like Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Kilo Blaster, Wolfenstein, Doom, Raptor. All the classics. Good times.
I think we still have the computer somewhere. -
I left my previous job to concentrate on finishing up University. I've been working full-time at another company and doing freelance on the side since then.
Not too long ago I saw my old boss and he told me i shoud apply back at the company and get back working Front-end.
I went to check the job posting. To my surprise, the qualifications they were asking were completely different than what I was doing at the time.
I'm no longer qualified for my old job despite being more experienced and still learning. -
Hi everyone, just discovered this wonderful community and I've got a new rant just for the occasion.
I work at a creative agency and we offer writing, design and web development.
This client wanted the whole package, so we've written a ton a copy, got it approved, sent it to translation, got it approved, designed both print and digital assets and developed a website.
Everything was looking good, files sent to the printer, website ready to be deployed...
Then we get a call and a PDF of text changes. The stuff is already printed.
The business owner's wife (not an employee) took it upon herself to make changes to the text, some of which have grammatical and spelling mistakes.
Everything has to be delayed, files have to be resent to the printer, project goes over budget, we're pissed, the printer is pissed and their director of communications is pissed.
What a shit show. I wonder who's going to get thrown under the bus for this one.1
