Why would they not use mobile phones? Isn't the whole point of owning a mobile phone to recieve and do phone calls?
For example my only phone is my mobile phone and for a lot of people it's the same. There's nothing unprofessional about it. -
I feel you bro. I'm a freelancer and when things go to shit, its usually due to my poor planning. No one else to blame but me. 🤷♂️

Wordpress can be fast if you remove all the bullshit. Whats makes Wordpress slow is all the stupid CSS and JS the core, third-party themes and third-party plugins inject in the HTML.
For example, when WP 4.2 dropped they added emoji support for older browsers through a 10 KB JS file. Take that shit out and you save yourself a couple of HTTP requests.
WP automatically loads jQuery in the front-end, you can remove it if you don't use it. Another saving right.
Sure its not super fast by default, but you can easily get sub 500ms loads with the right tweaks.
Is WordPress well made? Hell no, but it's not as bad when you learn how it works. -
Depends who I'm talking to but usually #2 because i work in a french speaking environment.

There are also RFPs (requests for proposals). Usually, larger companies and the public sector don't go by word of mouth. An RFP is a document a company puts out that lists services they need, budget, deadline, etc. To solicit potential suppliers to submit business proposals. It's a bidding process. Those are usually harder to come by as a freelancer. I don't have recommendations for those yet.
Hope it helps -
@dev1410 @Fabian Super late reply! I don't use any freelancing sites because they're always a race to the bottom. The cost of living in my country is too high for me to be able to compete with freelancers from countries with lower costs of living.
What I did before going into freelancing was to develop my professional network. Essentially becoming friends or acquaintances with everyone I've met in the design and development fields. The more people know about you, the more often you'll get work via referrals, recommendations, word of mouth, collaborations, etc.
I've been extremely lucky as all the work I've gotten is by word of mouth. I've also become the default developer for an acquaintance who's a freelance designer. Pretty much every 2 weeks he asks me to make him an estimate for a new project. He's been a freelancer for 10 years, so I get to meet a lot of people from his network and get to grow mine. -
@cybergod That's not attitude, that's enforcing a normal work / life balance. If she's not happy with that, I wouldn't want to work with them in the first place. That's a definite red flag.
Next time don't even bother replying until your work hours. -
Sounds like a nice challenge for both of you

@hell The company already has enough trouble buying enough toilet paper, i don't think we could afford bringing anyone to Canada.
@deygrey Not everything is about race buddy. Paying for relocation costs would bankrupt the company. Can't afford even local devs. We're trying to find local juniors and even that is hard. -
@electrineer Most likely.

Isn't this technically part of their obligations to respect the GDPR?
I don't think they're doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. -
I second your statement. Huge upgrade from my Nexus 4.

Whatever makes you more efficient.

I'm pretty sure enrolling to another class would be more expensive than paying the subscription.

There's a shit ton of money to be made in maintaining old system for banks and government as all the FORTRAN and COBOL as there are few people to maintain these systems.
My local college teaches COBOL cause the Canada Revenue Agency still uses the old mainframes to process tax returns. Government of Canada is a huge employer here.
I have a friend that had to learn COBOL on the job. -
I played a lot of Final Fantasy as a kid.

What did you get?

@ItsNotMyFault My bank uses a security question and a 6 number password to login. Letters arent allowed.
I don't get it. -
