Is it asking too much that a state agency use any kind of naming convention in their data management? I've come across about 7 different column names that all contain a value representing the number of students. Trying to decide whether I should send a deluge of tickets at their help system by submitting a ticket for every single row that contains any type of error.1

I think our network was having a heart attack today. Had to jump in on a webinar after most people had gone home and ended up tethering to my phone to get a decent connection. Hopefully our network guys see the ticket and can fix things quickly.1

Anyone know of any easy ways to pipe content into a .NET based web framework? Web team at work uses a Windows stack, but all the tech I use runs on Linux and trying to find a good way for my team and I to create content without stepping on the toes of the IT folks.2

When one of your staff members asks "what's a file path?" It's times like these that I am ever so grateful that @dfox hooked me up with a squishy ball.13

Got stuck programming the accountability system for an entire State on my own because the IT shop basically refused to do any work. No help testing, no help debugging, no help with collecting and clarifying business rules, barely any help getting access to the data, and then after I had programmed the entire thing they paid a consulting company about 4xs what I was getting for them to port it to SQL and they still haven't gotten it right yet. Nothing like knowing that any mistakes in your code could cost multiple people their jobs to add some additional stress to the situation. It was actually the first time I ever experienced any physical symptoms from stress; and that includes the time when my convoy got attacked with a roadside bomb in Iraq.

So I've been dealing with one hell of a shit bag filled property management company since the numbnuts that lived next door to us set the building on fire (and didn't wake us up). The fire was pretty brutal, but it seems like this company wouldn't be satisfied without amplifying the misery. So I was wondering if anyone had created any kind of bot to auto post things to someone's social media accounts? I figured if they were going to be total dicks about things, the least I could do was try to help out with any of their search engine optimization efforts.5

When the stupidest people on the planet move in next to you and burn nearly everything you own to the ground...and don't even have the courtesy to wake you up before getting out of the building themselves.10

The moment when someone on the panel at a conference mentions the need to document work and you try to start a slow clap...but mostly everyone else in the room has no clue what they were talking about.

Dear Comcast, why in the flying fuck is it necessary for you to bring down the entire network for five hours to do "routine maintenance." There's nothing routine about that.

About 6-9 months ago or so I try emphasizing the need to collect business rules with one of my colleagues. I tell them how it might take a few days to get the owners to define mutually exclusive and completely exhaustive terms, but doing so would immediately allow us to resolve all sorts of data quality issues. Well, naturally this gets ignored and then about a week or two ago the same person is wondering why they can't get consistent results when different people try to query the piece of shit "data system" that we have. Since they know I'm already leaving for another gig, I'm torn on whether or not to pull out the "I told you so..." card or to sit silently and listen to them piss and moan all day.6
