@sebastian correct. It shouldn't matter except they also have xxx and xxx_dev on the same server...
-
Personally, I prefer the same name for consistency. But I have lots of apps and lots of databases
-
Been there and been burnt. Google parameter sniffing
-
I hear you bro
-
Madness IMHO. Rather inefficient
-
Brr, it's freezing here. I do that regardless of whether I like them or not but it is more fun when they're a pita
-
2015?
-
Note: don't do what my firm did and let users loose on the production server for queries. Bar the security risks, someone clearly didn't think that amateurs could cripple a server by writing bad long running queries which shits on the performance and holds up several thousand other users. Do it on a read only replica ffs

I spent the last two months at my last firm decommissioning two legacy systems and migrating clients to the one I built. Not super exciting but satisfying in tearing out my predecessors shit
-
5 years+ for me. Have enough "inexperienced" developers in our "shadow it" dept
-
See my name?
-
Yeah, I want my .com back and it expires in two days.....

I took a pay cut last time I changed jobs, wasn't too far off $12k USD. I'd had enough of my old firm and needed a change. I chose slowly and carefully which took about 2 years to find a suitable fit. Luckily it paid off and salary has recovered nicely. Moral of the story: money isn't everything but it does depend if 12k is a big/small percentage of your income.
If you are in a specialised industry, you might get lucky with international virtual workers -
If @helloworld doesn't want his, I'll have it
-
Blasphemy!
-
I often (too often according to wife) log back on to work after kids have gone to sleep and do the fun bits of work. Last night was refactoring an app so I can migrate the DB to a new server and then introduce DB CI
-
I hear you. What about virtual working? Could you cope with working at home all day everyday?
-
All the time!
-
Youngster ;)
-
Lol, screenshot? ;)
-
I don't get all the PM hate here. If they don't work like you want them to, train them
-
A familiar feeling...

#macafeesucks
-
+1 coz it's a proper rant
-
And what were you searching for? ;)
-
I haven't had it happen to me but I've interviewed candidates who have been burnt. Just move on. Note, it might be the company rather than the agency
-
What's the availability of Internet like? Should you aim for computers or mobiles? I'd also consider not rolling-your-own
-
Decent wifi
Big big screen/media bench/white walls with projector so you can pair program/do standup
Enough meeting rooms so those that do need to chat can do so without disturbing others
Fruit baskets
Standing desks
Big screen showing status of apps/builds (maybe combine with above?) -
@linux-colonel agreed. Fixing functionality by deleting code is immensely satisfying
