@Devnergy here is how it usually goes:
1. Client ask for an estimate
2. The management, being the clueless fucktards they are, immediately commits a timeline.
3. Management ask devs if they can do it in X months, if not do overtime. -
@filthyranter unfortunately, we are not "most countries" 😐 employer can require us to work overtime for as long as we are paid for it. But still, I think it is unfair we are shouldering commitments we did not make.
-
@JS96 Laziness? XD this was way back then.
You could say I learned my lesson the --hard way -
@vyrtruus there was once a project here where the devs also worked overtime for weeks. That project was cancelled due to being so unmanageable that nearly all of those devs resigned.
I sense that history will repeat itself. -
@vyrtruus I am totally ok doing overtime when it was really necessary, but doing this consequently can really be tiring.
I think our project manager says we would be doing this for a month. So 3 more weeks... -
@asdfghjbenny thankfully they are paying us for the OT :)
Although for me, having time for myself and my family is more important than an overtime pay. -
@conjoiner Thank you :)
That is what I've been thinking. Even if we did manage to complete the project, if the management keeps on being a yes man just to close a deal then the next project will just as exhausting as the current one.
That is a red flag, I believe, that tells me I should go find a better job. -
@AndSoWeCode This project was actually supposed to be delivered to the client by Dec last year. It had grown into a monster it is today because our client keep changing their minds on some requirements and adds more. They also contradict themselves.
I understand why we are asked to work overtime. We are very delayed and our team just wants to get this over with.
Also our company pitched to the client it would only take 3-4 months to deliver, but it has been 6 months and we are still doing overtime. -
My wild guess it is called as just Linux is because it sounded catchy and easier to remember? I could be wrong 😅
-
Thanks @Michelle @barptad 😪
Feels good to have released that burst of anger. Haha! 😅 -
We tease each other all the time, they do it me too. Its just lighthearted fun guys. :)
-
@willol If only that is what they want then it will be super easy.
But alas, they meant that they can change the form labels to any text they want. :/ -
@plumbus I feel like the features they asked for are downright ridiculous.
-
@plumbus I suspect our clients wanted the app to be customizable/configurable everywhere so that we won't need developers anymore in case they wanted to change something.
I think after they used us and got what they wanted, then they can dispose of us. -
@codePolitics wow, looks interesting :) I'll read this later
-
aha! I have a similar story,
One of the projects handled, uses the literal string 'True' and 'False' stored on a Varchar column. and sometimes 'true' lowercase.
I'll strangle the dev when I found him, I swear. haha! -
this is the funniest rant I read this week. Hahaha!!
-
I fucking hate these types of managers
-
Client: Does it have feature XYZ?
Sales: It doesnt have that now, but it can easily be implemented
Client: How long?
Sales (Without thinking): Just a few days...we could also include feature...
Me (Thinking to myself): STOP. FUCKING. TALKING. -
me too :(
I see some impressive designs with amazing animations, beautiful parallaxes, or highly intuitive interfaces...
yet I can't even center a fucking divs correctly. haha! -
Haha! thats clever
-
@Jilano yeah, I wish it would evolve to full size and possibly write code for me, haha!
-
$ cd /
$ git init
$ git remote add origin my_repo_url
$ git add -A
$ git commit -m "Commit entire HDD"
$ git push -u origin master -
I'll definitely try this. haha!
-
@Kaisp its a project specification document ;) I am pretty sure my boss knows what to include and what not to include.
The situation feels like I am being assigned to fix a typo, where he could have done it himself. -
I don't think either style is better than the other. What is more important is style consistency on the entire codebase.
-
@frdinawan hahaha, of course :)
-
@frdinawan salute to you sir, for being a brave dev who reveals himself.
Welcome to our devRant community! :) -
Very easy! Just press F12 on your browser, change the money figure, take screenshot, then post to a social networking platform like Facebook with the hashtags #pwned #hacked

@swapped are you using UEFI? have you tried disabling secure boot? :)
