Closest is New York City.

@donkeyScript North Eastern part of the US.

@tahnik thank you.

I do have a web portfolio, and i maintain it, and made it from scratch / with framework.
I know both Foundation and Bootstrap, but I don't know Angular, nor React.
I get the jist of the MVC controller to an extent.
I do understand Git, primarily from command line only, but I do have the desktop App.
Also, I do know SQL fairly well. I'd say I'm proficient at it, but not an expert. -
Not necessarily. Sometimes others over complicate the problem, and don't know how to just step away to simplify it. Or, they've been working on the problem for so long that they need a second eye in order to offer suggestions.
-
@tahnik I have a lot of soft skills that I've gained working as a waitress/cashier/busser/order taker.
So, other than being concientous(?), I am fairly decent at problem solving, have an aptitude for learning new things rather well if I understand the abstract ideas behind it, and I continously try to learn things about the industry every day.
I am familiar with basic languages such as HTML5, CSS3, PHP5/7, SCSS/Less, basic jQuery and JavaScript (there wasn't enough emphasis here), basic AJAX, JSON, Python and Java.
Are there other skills that I might have that I haven't mentioned? Probably. -
@Jumpshot44 I have been using Stack Overflow, Indeed, Monstor, Beyond, newspapers (local area isn't really all that big at posting IT jobs in the newspaper).
-
@edisonn I do have one. If I remember correctly, it's on the second file I sent you. If not, I will gladly email you the profile.
-
@edisonn I am in the north eastern region of the US. I could share my resume with you through email; but bear in mind, I AM a beginner, and the college I went to had very little help in terms of jobs/resume/placement.
What do you mean by, "what are you doing?"
If I understand correctly, I generally do Front End Work (HTML, CSS, SCSS, jQuery)... but I do know a little backend (PHP, SQL). -
I would honestly miss the arrow keys @.@
-
siiiigggghhhhh
-
I'm in the same boat you are OP. It's difficult for Juniors. To be honest though, I don't think most colleges really prepare you for the working industry unless it's within the local area of the school or really big cities.
-
I wish you luck, try suggesting to them that the languages you use are your second, third, fourth and so on fluency. Your ability to learn syntax and grammar in another language makes your brain more fluid. These may not be spoken languages, but you can tell that you're building video games, or software products. They might understand then.
-
@georgelynch even standards that are set can only tell you so much.

privacy issues.
-
The problem with that, is knowing if the code is truly considered clean code.
-
I know the feels!
-
They sound incredibly arrogant to make a statement like that...
-
@iceman appreciate the compliment (:
-
@simeg it was a front end design, mixed with graphic design and marketing.
-
@tobich Surprisingly, they had Shadow the hedgehog, Batman, Superman, Mario and more all painted on the companies walls. I was little envious, because I really liked the company, but I made a dumb mistake.
I didn't take the job, but they did mention to me about my qualifications, and that they would be thrilled to have me. -
When I entered, the asked me to learn a brand new cms, knockout.js, and .NET. On top of this all, they also asked me to style all of their front end work, whilst learning what they asked of me. I asked them, out of pure curiosity, if they minded if I learned outside of work, and they told me not to worry about because they would teach me. it never happened.
-
He asked me questions that required maybe 10 - 25 words each. something like who my favourite comic book character was, would I be fine with structure and one other question about photoshop. didn't really care about skills lol
-
yup, I was too lazy to correct my grammar. sorry if it bothers you. (:
-
@Jumpshot44 they had a lot of development work, but they overestimated my skills (and the president of the company admitted that) and I couldn't do any of what they asked, because the work they were assigning me (an entry level developer with 6 six years of self taught and college learning) was beyond my level, and was bordering senior level work
-
I see. thank you
-
I freelance on the side, and I appreciate the help, really I do.
essentially though, I'm there to help them build a side project for them, but they don't make decisions as fast as I do the work that's assigned to me. -
I listen to music. All day. Comedy podcasts. exciting books. you name it.
-
I got most of that, but I hate brain numbing work because I don't absorb anything of it. I'm much more of a hands on person. I do well with constructive criticism, so I'm fine with doing something, and them criticising the work, but no one has time for that.
