I've put my blood, sweat and tears into this company in the past years. Worked overtime, evenings, weekends, night shifts to get shit done and helped out in sharing knowledge only to learn a new guy who's still learning has 200 bucks higher pay check than me.
I'm not even sure how to react to this.18 -
I have plenty of those but one that shines out from the croud is one frontend guy.
He had to modify some javascript slider but couldn't figure out how.
So he comes to me and tells me he found the code where the slider is initialized but changes are not applied.
I walk up to his desk and he shows me some CSS code with #slider selector in it.6 -
So my dev life was terrible for the past couple of months. So terrible indeed I didn't find words to rant about it. But here's one that sums up what people I have to work with:
A PM came to me today and asked me how she can save SVGs as PNGs. I asked her why she needs PNGs? She said a DEVELOPER asked her for them, because he can't use SVGs.
-.- it was only 5 images btw.2 -
So I had a fun week.
It started off with my boss replying to a co-workers email where he sent his new bank account, saying he doesn't need it untill we close off some baddly planned projects, meaning no paycheck.
Needless to say we were working night and days including weekends on it and put our best into it.
For the next part I need to explain a little background. We have this old legacy system I'm working with for the past 3 years. I keet raising the red flag we need a new one. Nothing happened. So every time I worked with it I kept thinking how to improve the parts. Almost two years went into thinking and planning the new system untill I got a green light. It was most satisfying - the day I got to build something good and awesome. I drew all the data structures, laid out the foundations and started building ontop of it. It was amazing and I was really proud of it. Then suddendly client wanted to see something and the decision was made we threw it together quickly with the old legacy system. It was on hold 'till then due to work overload.
Boss wrote me this week if I can put the project from git on a server, where he out sourced the completition into India where they will finish it. On thr question if they can't work on git, he replied: "should they?" -.-
To top it all up, I got a notice at the end of the week if I don't fill his shit time tracking system (that takes me one hour/day to insert all entries) by monday he'll deduct a sizable portion of my paycheck.
I AM WORKING FOR YOU ALL THE FUCKING TIME BECAUSE YOU LACK RESOURCES AND I THOUGHT A TEAM STICKS TOGETHER AND SAVES EACH OTHERS ASS! I DONT HAVE TIME TO ENTER YOUR FUCKING STUPID TIME ENTRIES IN YOUR FUCKING BUGGED SYSTEM EACH DAY ON TASKS THAT DON'T EVEN EXIST BITCH! MAKE IT BETTER FIRST!! OH! AND NO ONE IS MORE QUALIFIED TO FINISH THAT PROJECT THAN ME, I POURED MY FUCKING HEART INTO IT YOU PRICK!

Spent the last days trying to reach paypal tech support, hung on the phone across the globe, with people at paypal CS, who weren't even familiar with their own terminology, read tons of VERY 'straightforward' documentation and it kept me up two nights straight.
ALL because I REFUSED to believe that it is like I understood it between the lines that I read.
Today I got my answer. You can create Billing Plans (rules on which you'll base your subscriptions, i.e. amount, intervals, duration..) ONLY over the rest api, and only when a customer purchases a first subscription, you're able to EDIT the plan on Paypal dashboard!
What fuckery is that!? You have a edit form, but you can not provide a create form?! TY paypal for making me build a whole billing plan manager for usually a one time transaction per website.
I AM SENDING YOU MY PHONE BILL.1 -
Most emotionaly intense?
Every day! - when i have to merge in changes in production to git and figure out what the idiots changed in mangled minified javascript, i'm really happy i didn't kill anyone yet. -
FUCK ME!#@$%@ 6 hours now, trying to make a production build of my react/redux app but FUCKING envify sets NODE_ENV after the imported libraries are transformed!! IT WORKED TWO DAYS AGO WHAT HAPPENED :((2

If you're working on a project don't be concerend too much if it's made perfect.
Make a working example first and then go refactoring and improving functionality.
If you want something to be perfefct from the start, you will never finish it. -
You know you're fucked when google returns less than a page of results on your short three word query. The first result is the only question on SO related to your problem un-answered for two years and the rest of them are in Chinese or Russian.8

Just figured out: If you're browsing open tabs in Google Chrome on android and you're persistent on pulling them up while on the first one, they will spin. 😀1

I know using Composition is a good way of reusing components. Works like a charm and sends data down the tree like a waterfall.
But in our codebase it's applied to bugs. Fix one, get two more, fix two get four more.
I want to cry :'(( -
Trying to reserve a tour guide at Auschwitz in Birkenau. Google captcha wants me to prove I'm not a roboot. Pops up a collection of images where I should select only those with a TRAIN station..
well played google.3 -
Some idiot fixing bugs in production and overwriting files without updating his git repo when I pushed another bugfix live.
Boss to me: "it's your job to get the fix live!"
I FUCKING HATE MONDAYS!
screw performance i'm gonna run gulp.watch in production and just git reset it to last release when someone fiddles with files on the server :( -
Update to previous rant: My e-banking account is blocked, because apparently I already set a password on a website I never seen before.
- Tried the declined one
- Tried the unsecure one I chossed after the declined one
- Tried the pin number from mobile app.
BAM@#%$#%!!1!one1! YOU ARE BLOCKED FOR ENTERING WRONG PASSWORD TOO MANY TIMES. PLEASE CALL THE FUCKING BANK ON MONDAY.
I seriously hate this stupid country, and companies that don't know a first thing about web getting picked on government and public sector projects, sucking 100s of thousands of euros and providing the user experience that gives you a fucking diarrhea, at every SINGLE ONE OUF THEM!1 -
Switched banks, got new e-banking, unable to set up a new password.
It contains invalid characters.
IT'S A FUCKING BANK ACCOUNT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE HASHTAGS OR EVEN HAVE FUCKING SPACES IN IT IF I FEEL LIKE IT.7 -
Client calls screaming they want to go live today.
And oh yeah they also want three morebpaymentbgatways integrated before that.
The documentation is scarce and we never used them before.
Got it on the table 4h before day ends.

Dear colleagues,
YOU HAVE RUINED JAVASCRIPT!!@##@
Yes, you are one of those that are responsible for giving JavaScript a bad name and using jQuery for FUCKING EVERYTHING!@#$
Start thinking for yourselves, ditch this shit before it's too late and learn how to write some actual fucking code. The information is out there, you can do it. If you need handholding with $.each, creating concatenated strings with error prone code to send them in one field to the server, just to explode it back there, then consider that the world doesn't need your BULLSHIT code and go and get a job you're actually good at. Stop ruining it for the rest of us.
THANK YOU8 -
Hello fellow developers!
I know this is devRant, but I don't know of a better community with such diversity of developers like you guys and I need your input.
I decided to go on a language journey. I come from a background of php/javascript and feel the need to expand my horizons.
I'm going to write the same app in each language to get the feel of it and become familiar with the syntax and language concepts.
Since I'm a web developer I'll focus mainly on languages used on the web like: Java, Python, Ruby, etc.. But I want to cover others as well, like Objective-C/Swift, C++/C#.
I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of an app would cover most of the ground. I know the basic guideline for this is a TODO app for web frameworks, but I
don't feel like writing a TODO in Swift or C# really cover what the languages are intended for.
I don't know enough about the environments yet to come up with a good idea.
I want something, that can be language independent but would utilize the power of each language in one part or another and is still simple enough not to require weeks of development.
Does anyone have a brilliant idea what that could be?4 -
6y old me writing to santa I want a computer.
He brought me a calculator :D
Crying to parents that's not what I wanted, he corrected his mistake next year and brought a clComodore64.
I guess they knew for quite some time :)
