I was looking around an internal app that we use, and found this under group permissions.
Glad they're paying attention. -
!rant, just looking for some input
I can't find a solution that I like for managing email/calendar in one whack for Linux. I use Debian, and am currently using Evolution mail client, but the calendar doesn't sync with my Exchange. I tried IceDove, but didn't love the mail (or calendar) client.
For my Linux brethren out there, what do you use to manage email/calendar? I've heard G-Suite used a lot, but I'd rather have native software than a dedicated browser window.
Thanks ahead of time.4 -
@dfox It would be helpful to see the weekly rant topic in-browser, or have a sticky post with the topic when searching by the weekly tag2

Confession:
I spend an embarrassingly large amount of time carefully constructing email subject lines.4 -
You know you're talking to a sales guy:
"What's the URL for your API?"
"Um, I don't think we have one." -
Some of you might appreciate this, thought I'd share.
I'm currently on the board for a new school, and one of the choices we've made is to require a basic software programming class (most likely python) in middle school or jr high.
As a board, we've decided that it serves a couple great purposes: teach critical thinking and understanding (even a little bit) how software is written, since that's the axis of the world.4 -
*looking over an Excel sheet*
Me: now there are 2 rows that represent the same data, with the same description
Them: I'll just 0 out the one, and we'll ignore it.
Me: I'm never letting you near any of my databases. -
them: "This external HD isn't compatible with my Mac."
me: "It is, it probably just needs to be formatted."
them: *hands me box, with HD still in plastic wrap*
So, how do you know it's not compatible?2 -

"agile" teams, changing scope, unrealistic deadlines, non-tech PMs...
So much fits into this category.2 -
The ability to create something, something useful. Software is the intersection of artistry and invention. Honestly, why do anything else?

I haven't touched Java in 5 years. Buddy asked me to help out with an Android app. Any recommendations on getting caught up as a place to start?2

Saw a rant by @arekxv (link: https://www.devrant.io/rants/216484).
Read this article the other day and just laughed...because it's all too real.

THEM: "I got a chrome thing that says, 'Don't turn off your computer. Someone is trying to hack into your computer.' ...and it had some lady's voice saying, 'Error. Someone is hacking into your computer.' Should I click anything?"
ME: "No. I'll be right there...what did you click?"
THEM: "It was some Facebook quiz about 'Which Disney movie are you?'"

"I didn't get the email. I checked my spam folder"
"Did you check your trunk folder? I've heard there's junk in your trunk"2 -
As I joke, I put in the requirement for links to be active on a printout. My developers showed up with QR codes. Touché.

Things I say at work:
"...and the words 'ghetto' and 'database architecture' don't ever belong in the same sentence."
