In my time at helpdesk, Asian folks often filled out surveys with one out of five stars but with a glowing comment about how great the service was. Sometimes these folks were called to see how we could improve the service and they often said they meant to “give the best score.” Maybe some are seeing one star as “#1!” even though the rating explanation is right there.

I like my job! I’ve been lucky... I’ve enjoyed most of the jobs I wound up in over the last decade. My favorite part is when you reach total frustration solving a problem that you begin questioning your life decisions and banging your face off the wall without a solution. It is when you reach that point that you come up with pretty epic ideas and the feeling is so NINJA.
I get adrenaline e rush just thinking about it.
None of this is sarcasm, I promise. -
It’s a similar story when you work remotely. I did 99% work from home over 7 years divided between two companies, save for the first one flying me to their offices sometimes. Family and friends thought just because I was home all day, I had all this spare time to run around or visit with them or do things for them. No, ya’ll, I actually have to work my shift and produce stuff, but I can come by after 5. My neighbors actually thought I didn’t have a job and was a stay at home mom. Given I lived way out in the country, I can only imagine what they thought I did to pay the bills.

It’s a dev server so if it’s broken for a little while, no one really cares. Someone will bandage it and get it ready for its next break. But that ended up being a nice little experience in quick recovery. I’ve only been here 3 months.

“Read only Fridays” is a thing.

I run Linux distros in VMs. I’m not quite ready to run it as the primary OS. I find myself in the guests more than the host. I’m a little weird though. I actually, in the long run, enjoy the feeling of wanting to bang my head against the wall trying to repair something I broke or configure a new thing. That’s not sarcasm. I can’t put into words the epic shit ton of things I learn in the process. And if I win, I feel so ninja.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I hadn’t considered following blogs and forums, just the tutorials and books. That seems like a really good way to learn how others work through things and pull it together.

Yes. Progressing more slowly than intended due to recent shift in time constraints. 😝

I have a service that, when I ask it to email me a password reset link, and I click the link in the email, I’m presented with a login page. So I’ll go grab a pal to let me set myself a new one in an admin portal. Go back to my desk and login with the new password, I’m now presented with the form to set a new password. Something not quite right.

Slightly related. I've gotten invitations from recruiters for the same position I already have at the same location I already work for less money. It's like they don't even try to read the profile.
-
I don't even want to talk about how long I looked for the enter key ON THE DESK.
-
Must be if @linuxxx can't check it until he's home, because NSFW?
-
Lagging... 😝
-
I have an email too, ya'll. Lol
-
Wait. What's being emailed? 😂
-
@projektaquarius I honestly do not know now, because on third thought, we see how easy it was to link me to things off-site regardless. I exist on the internets as amlove32 and it's such a plain username. I am only slightly worried about what might have been found but a quick Google of my own was reassuring. 😄 Thank you for your kind words.

😂
-
@linuxxx like I said, I'm not difficult at all to find online but beware of impostors. 😂
-
Sorry I had second thoughts and deleted it. Lol but I'm not hard to find online. Thanks 😊
-
I jinxed myself with this and today reached epic proportions.
-
That would be my guess
-
Thanks. It was a nice 3 years. The company as it was, was very good to its people. Unfortunately, it was acquired and layoffs happened. My user profile is still there, but massively broken. So many changes over the last 6 years since.

Laptops aren't quite amphibious. Yet.

Now I want to see one for Samuel L. Jackson.

I really like the one for freedom to try and fail! At one place, if you messed up, it resulted in a massive memo, where at least names were left out. A lot of the times, you were left wondering if you were one of the ones who did it wrong, because you were never "coached" one-on-one.

I managed to get 3 hours of training in Monday morning and almost a half hour of it Tuesday morning before it became a repeat of Monday. 😂 it was like Groundhog day! Then the schedule was changed back to normal. I was scheduled for 40 hours of training.

That's funny!
I hope it's just that this lady has an older resume from when I first applied. I've been here 18 months and I'm not hard to find in the global address list. :D -
I keep getting calls from a recruiter... offering me the same position... for the company I already work for... they keep leaving voicemails because they keep calling while I'm working...

As a middle schooler in the 90s, a giant green "MS DOS" book and porting those adventure novels (if you want to do x, turn to page y) into it.
For cooler stuff, Python was the first. -
I've had people log into their online banking or put in credit card info, etc. I tell them "let me remind you, I'm still on your computer" and the response I get "just close your eyes." Lol And then you can hear them saying their passwords to such as they're typing it in. I suppose they should be glad I'm an honest one, but it's scary to think about how open they are with someone they do not know.
