@iceb My former boss (who I've kept close relationship for the past 2 years, since I've left the company) asked me to help him for a weekend to upgrade their internal system because the current devs couldn't do it.
Agreed to help and had a memory lane working with the system this past weekend. I went to the office, sat in my old seat and started to code for 3 days straight. By the end of the day, I did not feel exhausted at all unlike my current job. -
Can we trade if you're remote?
-
I did the same when I moved to USA. Not sure about the extension because you have to sign and they cannot just do it. So consult a lawyer in regards to this.
If I left, I would have to pay $25k so I just underperformed and they let me go after 1 year. It was 2.5 years contract. -
@LotsOfCaffeine On Code Review sessions we would review other devs Pull Request. We did not have every day PRs so if some developer wanted to discuss other stuffs such as code style docs etc we would. But meetings would not go over 30 mins.
As per learning and docs, instead of “Happy Hour” BS meeting every Friday (which failed and no one attended), the Director of Engineering though to do “Lunch & Learn” for devs. We would learn new stuffs that are coming out in Python or other techs. Encryptions, etc. It went on for 5 months until i left.
One of those sessions was code clarity and how to fix a project that ha spaghetti code while enhancing as well. -
Low key I love those interviews. I am bad at Leetcode. I try and I try. I can solve easy ones and some Medium, but I have never been asked an easy question.
For take home assessment, all companies have given me 1 week to finish and it’s < 2 hours to complete. I have aced all of them. 100%. And I have gotten offers from all of them. -
Yes. Every time I save it pops up to create account. I removed it.
-
Yea and no. If you know the domain and codebase in your sleep, it’s stress free. You know what to do. Otherwise, you’ll be having gray hairs daily.
-
@retoor They’re going hybrid or in site. My friends in Europe are all on-site. US is a bit different. I’m doing my part. When a recruiter contacts me, I tell that I am interested only remote.
-
@koes Until my company’s retirement and RSU contributions are fully vested, which is about ~ 5 months left.
At this point, I could not care less. -
Depends in the higher ups. My manager have been chill for since I started the company.
The past 2 months, the company has been in talks of being acquired by some bug corpo and he is being rushed by higher ups which leads to me and to finish the tasks faster.
He tried to fight it but to no success. -
@asgs While I would agree with you, I know the guy. We were in college together. He just doesn’t care and does the bare minimum. (While I would argue less than minimum in this case)
My former boss him after 4 months. -
I never understood this. Especially when people say “I didn’t like going back to office but they added free snacks and free pizza every Friday so it’s better now. Going back to office it is. “ And then they do 2 hours commute back and forth just because the company added free snack and pizza.
Employee should have higher standards. -
Goddammit. Couple of friends of mine who are living in NL said there are only hiring freeze. No layoffs as of now.
-
@ScriptCoded Multivariable Calculus is Calc 3. I haven’t taken that class. I’m talking about Calc 2.
-
Don’. Better getting fired and collect that unemployment rather than quitting
-
@Hazarth The toxic “DevRant”. Don’t go there if you want to have a peace of mind. Especially now.
-
Nope. A lot of hobbies to kill the time with.
-
Don’t. You need unemployment check
-
Thank you all for the suggestions. You’ve been very helpful.
-
@Midnight-shcode Seems so. :P
-
Aren’t passwords hashed? And wouldn’t comma be hashed as well?
-
@melezorus34 Of course.
-
@MM83 What's the other term? Modern Technology? Or Modern Workflow? I think "Tech Stack" is an acceptable term, but that answer... it's cringe adding a lot of buzzwords... it's cringe.
-
I think that captcha has level of correctness. There are websites where I have to try 3-4 times. And there are websites where I just choose the minimum tiles and it’s correct 100% of times.
-
Yet it has bugs in MacOS and don’t work. You have to bind keys manually.
-
@storealutes It returns JSON but you have to pass XML. Good luck on your journey.
-
I’m having the same problem. Battery needs replacing and the speaker is making a cracking noise. I haven’t taken it for service yet. I think it Mac problem, but I can’t say for sure if the person who did the service caused it or not.
I have MacBook Pro mod 2017 version. -
ASAP is better than “I need this yesterday “. It just triggers me.
-
Wait until you hear the word “AI”.

Storm incoming?
