Why do so many online resources still change quote characters in the code for the curly ones? It's 2023, how hard is it to add a fucking rule to skip conversion inside the <code> blocks?9

Whenever I get to switch from vs code to a jetbrains IDE, I remember what the difference between a text editor on crack and an actual IDE is. Jetbrains IDEs are just such a blessing.
Visual Studio is still a piece of shit though :)7 -
FML, I hate projects where managers (and other developers, too!) irrationally think that the only thing to do in the codebase is delivering new features and fulfilling change requests.
After 5 years of such approach, the code is bloated, and has hack-on-hack done against the original architecture, and management complains on the time to delivery a change, however asking them to get some time to "refactor" meets a deny every single fucking time because "we don't have budget".
Decided to leave the team. Any reason to stay there longer?7 -
OMG, Usually I'll be the first to protect Visual Studio. (I do love it, I love to have everything inside same IDE).
But since last update....
Lunch VS 2022with your project.
Start a new SQL querry via SQL servers explorer
Execute querry.
Now, try to fucking close thios not saved SQL file. It will ask you, if you wanna save bla bla.
And then... VS just dies.... Goes in full COPU usage mode for 2-3 MINUTES lol.
Only happens with unsaved SQL files, while connexion is opened AND you have an opened solution -
I hate python.
Who thought that creating a language that doesn't provide any backwards compatibility whatsoever without a way of managing versions is a good idea?20 -
If I have to change my domain password every 3 months for a bullshit out of date security policy (there's plenty of evidence suggesting that changing passwords is actually worse security), then maybe, just FUCKING maybe, make sure that that password change appropriately filters down to things like SQL Server so I can keep doing my goddamn work.9

The low workload week(s) after a big delivery feels so weird, like it's the calm before the storm, instead of the rainbow
-
Fuck environments without direct internet access and only http proxy in place.
That is all, thank you for listening3 -
Ah very good, it seems Windows has taken the liberty of putting a link to Edge on my desktop again. Just in case I had accidentally removed it or something.10

Fucking hell with the password fields.
Why in the fucking hell you can't tell me what's the max characters count? Why I have to deal with auto-truncated passwords after the fact?
Go eat exquisite shit, peasant punks, pussy cutters.2 -
Building my own accounting software because everything else is overly complicated and is trying to compete with enterprise accounting tools. All I want is some budgeting, some bill tracking, and categorization.
Writing in Ruby because I'm a masochist. Using built-in minitest because again 😈.
I have currently around 62 assertions. As soon as I add ANY new test that's literally asserting true, everything comes unglued and 20+ failures pop up. Take it out, 62 passes.
I feel like I'm going crazy at this point. The errors also don't make ANY sense. Shit like, "that record doesn't exist" when it's clearly a part of fixtures and is only used in ONE test(the one that's breaking).
Installed minitest bisect, and it's like 🤷♀️"lol get fucked bro!"
So I came here to rant about this before my battery dies and I go drink myself to sleep.
Thank you for coming to my dev-talk.8 -
FUCK YOU to all the platforms abandoning OpenGL.
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT! (defaults opengl 1.1)
FUCK YOU APPLE!
I guess we are moving steadily towards Vulkan.
Is Apple even going to support that?
FUCK YOU APPLE!
And an extra FUCK YOU APPLE! just because they are dicks in general.
Don't think I forgot Microsoft's dickishness: FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!1 -
I'm angry today. The customer's code reviewer blocked my delivery because variables of type "Context" are abbreviated as "ctx".7

Interviewer: Hello my name is Alyssa from Sheeple and my pronouns are she/her
Dev: Oh yeah I saw that in your email
Interviewer: Ok well I am just letting you know they are still the same
Dev: Thanks for that.
Interviewer: What are your pronouns?
Dev: div/span
Interviewer: Sorry?
Dev: he/him
Interviewer: Oh…ok. Let me know if that changes.
Dev: I promise you it won’t
Interviewer: Well you never know!
Dev: …46 -

1) Quitting the job that I felt led on from the get go and didn't realize I signed up to be a full time contractor instead of a full time employee.
2) Getting my degree in Network Administration.1 -
Just resigned in my current position and signed with a new company for a much better opportunity. So I hope this will be it.2

what the fuck is up with devs who always send screenshots of code and/or log files? In Slack, which has great functionality for formatting text snippets in a variety of languages and data types?! screenshots of code are really a pet peeve lately. You can't copy the text or click on any urls or do *anything* with a fucking screenshot. so dumb.6

Tldr : In my country, there is always a middleman .It is so rare to work for end client directly and it is very common to be fuck over by them, because they want milk you out as much as possible
Job description : Salary range from X to Y
Me : I expect 90% of Y $
HR : if you pass technical examination we can agree on this amount.
*Technical interview*
All correct answers, perfect match with stack etc.
HR calling next day:
HR: Great job on interview, but you need to lower your financial expectation to X (around 50% of Y)
Me: Why? We have spoken the other day and you said there would be no problem with the money. I nailed the interview, I don't understand why I should agree to lower wage.
HR: I know I know, but right now we cannot give more. Maybe later
Me: I am sorry, but I feel kinda cheated. For me this is red flag since I don't know what I can expect later if you are not sincere from the beginning. I won't take your offer, goodbye.9
