Nothing is free, people.
Nothing. -
@ananaszjoe you obviously don't know many of those :-p
-
Haha read this the other day. Sent it to a friend at a "startup" with 200 employees. Apparently the whole office is secretly reading it lol
-
@hash-table yeah or just use full disk encryption under Linux with a strong passphrase, you get the same effect without having to rely on a script running.
-
@stillwater thanks!
-
@Root Stahp, I might blush!
-
@CoffeeNcode it's definitely better, especially as there are loads of great opportunities up for grabs!
-
FINALLY, some actual discussion!
Now we test the mettle of Devrant.
My bet is they'll do the same as all the other pussified so-called forums on the internet and shut down all actual discussion in case someone offends the blue haired loons.
The reason men are highly represented in tech is because men more often gravitate towards that kind of job. Oh wow, look, cause and effect, who could have imagined such a thing? -
That looks like some nasty-ass code...
:-D -
Hi, do you have a moment to talk about NixOS?
Sorry, I'll show myself out...
Seriously though. Two years, running git master version of nixpkgs. Zero lost work time. -
https://github.com/WordPress/...
It touches 610 files in the repo. -
But but but....
Code is poetry man!
There is a commit in the WP repo which is a reformat of most files with "code is poetry" as a commit message. The muppet completely broke `git blame` -
It has more to do with characters than anything else, I suspect. A lot of developers have character types that trun to debate as a way to get to the truth about any given topic. This can easily lead to flamewars when you habe several people all trying to be right about something that is essentially comparative.
The higher truth is of course that programming languages resemble in a fractal way the software they are designed to create: they are made with a certain feature set, and contain more or less bugs, the quantity of which is usually correlated with the size of the feature set, and the time they took to be developed.
But this is difficult to see when you only know one language well, which is why most people who complain about the debate itself are programming polyglots. -
Poll is missing nixos

@Root thanks!
The project was dropped in the end. The group decided to go with an external partner.
Instead we have to deliver "ecommerce" across our 5000 websites in a month.
So we've added a bunch of unaudited plugins of various provenances to WordPress, I have told them I won't guarantee the results, and I'm actively looking around for my next gig.
I was brought on to pilot the split into services. They won't let me do it. Time to leave. -
What @magicMirror said. Get rich off their idiocy.
-
Can't remember the url but check out the flickr dev blog - the latest post goes into this in some detail.
-
I hear you man :-D
-
Just to add my two cents as a freelancer: communication is key. It is always better to err on the side of too much communication rather than too little.
Status reports are your greatest friend. Send one at the end of the day and your client will feel respected and in control. -
I just say "yeah" and refuse to elaborate now. People imagine all sorts of weird stuff.
-
@AcidBurn is that because PHP is used for sending illegal emails too?
Sorry couldn't resist. -
@Linux yes. To be fair, I left the car open all night...
-
If you have a Volkswagen, get a VAG-COM. It's pricey but worth it. Don't leave it in your car and then forget to lock the car though. :-/
Source: I used to own a VAG-COM... -
I learnt to mend my car. Two things: no git, so debugging has to be fairly non invasive and cunning. For example, baby talcum powder is great for finding leaks. And time estimation is just as hard to get right. :-D
But when you save yourself a thousand dollars, it's all worth it.
And yeah, OBD-II is your best friend. -
Thank you for escaping that "'"

What she actually means is "spend some time with me!"
And by the way, you should. Getting your head out of programming from time to time will help you have better ideas and so on.

I actually wrote a sweet React component to do this the other day. Iframe can be good for security flows like 3DSecure or signing documents with Docusign.

It sounds like he's trying to see how far you can be pushed. I'd ask for overtime pay, but that may not be possible where you are.

Nixos. Any packages which would conflict on other OSes can be installed side by side with no issues on Nixos. The trade off is disk space usage, which is not an issue.

How kind! Thank you!
