If you want great NC and good sound WH-1000XM3. If you want to go a bit cheaper with worse NC but IMO nicer sound Sennheiser momentum 2.0 (HD1 I think they're called now). The latter are also much nicer in build quality. Bose are a good option for great NC but personally I do not like their sound signature (I'd save a few bucks and go for the QC35II over the 700 if you don't absolutely need the improved microphones of the latter). There are also many cheaper options with nice sound and slightly worse NC from Sony, Sennheiser etc.

@frickerg any windows computer can run Linux. You never know what apple will do with their proprietary drm/tpm bullshit. They do everything to lock you into their software and hardware ecosystem.
-
Wow congrats! Are you gonna be based in Geneva or the CSCS in Lugano who does a shit load of their computing?
-
Flatbed scanner lid? Awesome!
-
Arch? I dont care much. I just like pacman and i3
-
@Artemix I had one of those. 15W in standby doesn't heat much. And mine is still in use as A COMPUTER!
-
Manjaro+i3 (and install KDE alongside in case you get frustrated).
-
I've got a chap using mine (unconsciously). I get all his store receipts, lawn service appointment reminders, per care appointments etc. Even got his numberplate and address from a repair job on his car.
Just waiting until I get his SSN to turn the whole thing around :-D -
If you wanna boil everything down to their original meaning then pepperoni is a vegetable not a sausage.
-
@daintycode there are only 2 dudes. In summary my act of goodwill turned out to be a complete waste.
-
@iSwimInTheC switched my degree and university. The perks of free university education in most of Europe.
-
I just made a fresh windows install on a laptop I want to sell. It doesn't even start and gives me a BSOD with memory management error. The memory is fine.
-
@nullsoup the keyboard, the sturdiness, the quality, and they look like a workhorse. Functional and tough.
-
That was my first. Basic. Literally.

Repurpose the obsolete! Yay
-
@LordKerwin oh I used a P51 for a while. They're great and not even that ugly for a portable workstation. And if you're getting robbed you have countermeasures at hand
-
@py2js it's a node backend with some weird custom authentication logic. Django is too opinionated to make it work with little effort.
-
@just8littleBit underfetching mostly in my case. The thing is my app already had a graphql API but they wanted a REST one.
-
@wolt wanted a T480. Then I realised I can get a student discount so the X1 fit in my budget. Happy me!
-
Works until the next kernel update...
-
I'm eyeing a ThinkPad T480s now. If you can get student discount you might be able to squeeze it in your budget. Or the T480.
-
@mzeffect I think the XPS is probably the best 13inch ultrabook at the moment. Even if the keyboard layout sucks.
-
@Nanos I can only confirm that about 1m still works. But then why not put the pi where your camera is? It's tiny.
-
@theScientist that's what I'm currently doing. Hence, even worth investing time in a new language?
-
@jakobev I've got one running owncloud. The RPi3 is fast enough for most things imho.
-
@Nanos some usb cameras work. I have a stone age one from Logitech that I got to work. You could also just buy a longer ribbon cable for the pi cam...
-
@SoulSkrix this one runs fine with Manjaro. Fingerprint sensor, webcam and deep sleep modes don't however.
-
@BindView ah thanks. I hadn't spotted that yet!
-
Yes I know and initially I just deactivated them. Simpler solution was just to use vim keybindings everywhere.
-
It's a XPS 9365. Runs arch most for web development. Everything runs fine but they never fixed the sleep wake issues (Google is your friend)...
