Report back on how it goes at Amazon! We'd love to know :)
Also congrats and fuck those guys for not promoting you. -
@grumpyoldaf too late. I went full 3b
-
@Nanos In the Open Space, everyone can hear you scream.

The first computer *I* owned, that was *mine* (because all the other teenagers were buying cars and trucks and I just wanted to surf the web) was a beast of a 486.
The guy that built it was a local dude that didn't put a cpu fan on it, so my computer would slow and slow and crash. I read a bunch online and figured out the issue, and was so proud of myself that I was DOOMED to play with computers the rest of my life. -
This is cliche, but get exercise, especially cardio. I have the worst brain fog, and running solves it (and and I use to hate running).
The rush of oxygen is a bonus, but the body reacts to cardio with increased production of endorphins and dopamine. It's not something you can actually quantify, but I swear my cognitive ability increases to at least 400% after a good 20 minutes of exercise. -
I could call in with a case of the "too many ice cream sandwiches flu" and they would give me the day off.
They do this because I work hard when I'm there and deserve the human respect of some flexibility, because I've earned it.
If they asked for a doctor's note they'd get my letter of resignation instead. -
I'm so disappointed in Apple. The touch bar isn't optional, which means there's no 15" MacBook pro with an escape key and F keys, which means they've lost my business indefinitely

The Null Terminator (obvi)
-
@Commodore I have good news, you can have both! I am enraged by all of these things and more. :)
-
@alexbrooklyn it added about two minutes, and it's C#
-
Congrats! You've been given the opportunity to find something better! :D
... which is probably not how it feels now, but I bet you land on your feet just fine. :) -
This is amazing thank you so much
-
Patching software is definitely a challenge.. but man, Ubisoft has some clams don't they? They can afford to wrestle with the big problems.
-
My favorite is, "why two days? It's just a button."
Yes, I understand what you interact with is a button. That button sequentially calls eight entirely new rest services, in sequence, and starts a CRON job and fires off a new Docker container which returns it's response after the entire machine stands up and the endpoint returns a 2xx success message.
So.. yeah. "One button." -
@iAmNaN I don't think ageism is as big an issue for good devs. If you're good and can convince them of that fact there will always be a position for you somewhere.
-
@broseph I use to think of jobs as either winning or losing, and now I think of them as winning or learning.
You're stronger and wiser now. :) -
Congrats man! Hopefully it was at least a good learning experience?
-
Offensive AND spam, wow
-
Where are you looking? Flexjobs.com and WeWorkRemotely tend to have a lot of great leads... also stack overflow's job postings.. indeed.com
You'll find something, just keep looking :) -
maaaybe I can keep the peace, let's see if I can find some middle ground.
Apple is expensive shit and Samsung is slightly less expensive but more shit.
Am I doing this right? -
Awe you caught me
-
Take up a job as a JavaScript developer. You will have to use the jungle of npm modules.
Bury your face deep into the bosom of madness. -
C# is pretty great. I miss it now that I do Java 8 things.
-
Short for Felix?

I have never really worked from home full time, and it sounds like my dream job.
You have my sympathy, I feel similarly incarcerated. -
I'm not saying these aren't useful. Team chat is a powerful tool I would never want to live without. If people used it exclusively for that purpose (and also sharing cat memes) I would love it.
It's the whispering about each other that bothers me. -
@FrodoSwaggins oh good point... Let's omit that one from the record 😅
-
The dark side of this one is...
Developer: this is a really bad security vulnerability we need to fix.
Business: that sounds time-consuming and expensive, just work on the features you were assigned.
Six months later... -
Sounds like you have no product management staff. They are a critical component.
