So the big challenge with technical debt is making non-technical management (CEO, COO, CFO, directors) understand what it means, and just how it operates. Sometimes it actually makes good sense to incur technical debt to get to market sooner, just as it sometimes makes sense to borrow money to get cash now and repay that loan later with (hopefully) resulting greater revenues from that investment. But just like a loan, tech debt always has to be paid some day. The longer the tech debt goes, the more expensive it gets. And also like a loan, the cost compounds, like compound interest on a loan. Tech debt should always be chosen with a clear plan to pay it off at some point in the not too distant future. The longer one waits to pay it, the more expensive it gets.

Didn't see that coming

After four months of working alone, finally got another developer at work. Unfortunately they hired him as my boss. He came to me yesterday with a new project and told me to drop everything I'm working on for it. I asked him the timeline for it, a week. Why. Why the fuck. Go fuck yourself.

Obsolete function?

This was just a „you had one job“ moment. I double tapped a rant to give it a ++ and immediately this message appeared. devRant, why do you give me such unnecessary notifications?

When there's an error in the url you get the code 404
When there's a server error you get 500
When there's an error in input you get 400
And so on ...
The IANA should add a code for when every error happens and call it 2020

Is that a message describing windows altogether, or just the copying routines... Can't figure that one out.

Bad leaders are simple - they give someone a job - simply to return an eon later unhappy with the progress - without seeking to understand a single component of the events that transpired during their absence. Place this mentality at the top of the hierarchy, and it will cascade throughout an entire organisation.

If anyone is about to tell "rich people will have iPhones" the answer is "the app is only on playstore because I'm not rich at all and don't want to pay Apple, plus if you're really rich, just buy a phone and then buy the app"
