@sariel i find myself encountering this A LOT. I have a lot to work on
-
@killames it's a legacy setup that requires me to be logged in as root to access the node process manager we use (pm2). Honestly don't have much technical depth with it as I am one of those "full stack" devs that has become the whole team for this project.
-
@Floydimus Thanks man. It is starting to pass. I'm making sure I learn from this to prevent this in the future.
-
@devphobe Thanks for the advice! I took the weekend to just calm down. The wife, dog and I are all doing a lot better now.
-
@Cyanide will do. the fact that i dozed off while typing is insane and is not something that should happen again
-
@asgs thanks! will do for sure.
-
i can relate with feeling 'dirty' after spending hours trying to figure out why 'thing' is happening and then once you've figured it out your fix is hack line of code.
-
can relate. my degree is for embedded systems design. couldn't find any embedded systems jobs that would hire me. took a web development job. 6 years later and im still in web development.

Got laid off from my JS/PHP job three months ago and had to work on a J8 sample application as an exam for a company I was applying to.
Have to say I had a blast! Was a PITA getting J8 to do things that were 'simple' to do in JS/PHP but it was really fun actually having to think about things (like what data structures to use vs just using [] or {}). It made me feel more like a programmer.
I would have taken that job if they offered it to me if only to get back into Java. Sadly, they ghosted me for 2 months and the only time they contacted me again was on my first day at my current job. -
@vigidis might be the latter
-
Nice to see an actual rant. Hope you make it out of that WP hole alive
-
@Oktokolo yeah fixing broken windows and all that is the best I can do. one of the most obvious things is switching the tabs in the files i come across to spaces haha
-
@Hazarth duuuuuude that just might work!
-
@Wisecrack this actually happens sometimes when I dont notice an album has ended lol
-
@alexbrooklyn yeah that would have been a lot better.
-
@hardfault thanks! really glad that it turned out well for me.
-
@akshar haha im glad it turned out the way it did too!
-
@WildPotato sure will! I'm just wating on this whole covid-19 thing to get sorted out. always good to give back to those who have helped along the way.
-
@SolarStorm true that. There will be those people in charge of hiring that know our worth but they are too few
-
@Voxera thats great! I'm used to reading about imposter syndrome a lot but I never really thought that it described me.
-
@ScriptCoded ive heard this so many times before that the fact that it was the other way around pissed me off so much hahaha
-
@ScriptCoded my bad, it was working on our dev and prod but i had the haaaaardest time getting it to work on my machine.
-
This is 100% me. Not proud of it at all :(
-
@Fast-Nop @jdhirsch you guys make good points that I did not think about. thanks for the insight. makes me less angry about the whole situation.
I still feel like I wasted my time on a joke though. -
@C0D4 not this tbh. haven't gone to interviews in 3 years but the last time around was a lot better.
-
@shivayl Docker magic is a doubled edged sword hahaha
-
@arslan013 Well thats true. They do say that ignorance is bliss haha
-
@nathanchere Aww man that is scary... :o I've got to learn to live with it then.
-
@Hubot-0x58 Thanks for the suggestion. Getting into python because I've always found it interesting, and I'm also using my JS powers to get into learning the basics of games for the fun of it.
-
@noms89 sounds like a great idea. ill make sure to make the best out of the time off im getting then
