I prefer Mac keyboards - so I've mapped my Windows keyboard at work to have the same layout. Workmates often try to copy+paste and can't figure out why it won't work.
-
@jschmold I can't begin to imagine how annoying that would be!
-
High-Quality Sony or Sennheiser - don't get Beats, the sound quality is shite.
-
And the rule of 'if I have my headphones on, it's like I've closed my office door - don't interrupt unless it's actually urgent' being totally ignored to be asked how to spell a certain word.... rage inducing.
-
The NHS is already extremely underfunded... which would you prefer: a doctor to treat your bullet wound, or a computer running the latest security?
-
Deposit, to me, is usually non-refundable except in extreme circumstances, and at the discretion of the contractor.
-
It's one of the many things I like about my workplace - I don't think even the word 'Javascript' is on our site! And we have a client liaison, who is completely non-technical - yeah, it can be a hassle explaining stuff to them in that it takes ages, but once they get it, they discuss with the client in terms they'll understand.

I used Comic Sans in all my Uni essays to make them appear longer :) would go from 4 pages to nearly 6!
-
I know they do. There's a paper trail of it. But I use that to motivate me - work harder, show them you're better than they think. Prove them wrong!
-
@NathanDoesDev to be fair, I did a degree in Music... so they didn't know any better.
-
TBH, I wrote all my university essays in Comic Sans - it made it look like I'd actually reached the word count :)
-
I'm actually pleasantly surprised that my most recent site only needed 1 (count it - ONE!!!) amendment for IE compatibility!!

*raises hand*

Depends how badly I need to drown out the rest of the people in my office... but ATM, 99% of the time I'm listening to Hamilton.
-
There is a big difference between 'can't be done' and 'shouldn't be done'.
I think a lot of people say can't because then they don't have to spend the half an hour explaining the reasoning behind the shouldn't. -
I have a music degree!
-
During Uni I took my work to a local cafe, and always got a heap more done. Too many distractions at home, didn't want to be on campus all day.
-
Upon further investigation - we do use Emmet!!
-
@jckimble I didn't just mean my insane lack of coding skills :p
The company technically didn't have a job vacancy, but the boss liked my attitude and work ethic (I was doing a kind of internship) so they hired me!
Right place, right time - which I've always found is a major factor in getting the job :) -
@yarwest yeah, I looked it up - we use something veeeeeerry similar, but I can't remember what it's called (it was pre-installed on my work machine)
-
While I agree in principle, it would've meant I'd not have got my job!
Attitude and the ability to learn and adapt quickly should also be key indicators :) -
Stoked your first day went well!!
As for Emmet...

Never heard of it? -
They hired you for a reason! So go knock their socks off :D

Being able to effectively communicate is a foreign concept to some of my fellow devs.

PICNIC in our office

@rookiemaverick @gauthier almost, not quite...
(IMO of course)
At home: I have an Apple PC that runs Mac OS
At work: I have an HP that runs Windows OS -
Case for the Oxford comma once again

@n1had Roboto is nice 🙂
-
@pixeltherapy oh, and though I am aware of TypeKit, and have used it myself in some personal projects, this isn't a TypeKit font 🙃
-
@pixeltherapy oh, yeah, $400/yr PER SITE... Clients love paying that 😜
The designer knows that the specific font is licensed etc. Has been told for every concept done all year... Yet, continues to use it.
