Managed to make myself look like a fucking moron again today...
Can't mount NFS share, get "permission denied". Huh, that's weird... It's correctly exported.
Well it's correctly exported and rpcinfo -p $HOST times out... Must be firewall rule.
Firewall rule is changed but still no joy "permission denied"... Fuck sake networks, can't you do anything right first time?!!!
Firewall rule is correct I am reliably informed... Go about proving that it's not fucking correct and provide "evidence" to show this, I was a little bit more blunt than was strictly required.
Networks say they will take another look.
I turn NFS logging to verbose for my own interest and notice the line "path/to/directory is not a valid directory".
I, as a moron, had missed a "/" at the start of the path. That's why I still couldn't mount after the firewall change.
Go over and apologise in person and explain how I'm a total idiot. -
decided to rebuild my personal website as an emulated terminal... pretty happy with it so far.
(its open source in case anyone wants to check it out: https://github.com/alexdovzhanyn/...)9 -
My anxiety is kicking in again.
I want to build something meaningful outside of work but my mind is blank, I have no ideas to implement, and whenever one pops up in my head, I DDG it, I find that there's someone who already built something similar and I lose all interest.
I want to code, but I'm tired of solving fictional problems.
I miss being excited to learn a new tech, since I know I would ditch it if I can't find anything to build with it.
This is causing me to lose all motivation to code and learn, I really hope this is just a phase 。゚・(>﹏<)・゚。17 -
Being 100% serious, I saw a guy in my Computer Programming I class using MS Word to write code that he would copy, then paste into notepad. When I asked him why he did that, he said, "Microsoft Word is easier to read than notepad."
He ended up dropping the class and changed majors.11 -
I was giving an interview this other day and I was sharing my screen with the interviewer.
Interviewer 😦: Is this linux you are using?
Me 😅: Ah yes. Since this is a coding round I am not comfortable on windows for coding.
Interviewer 😳: And this is your personal laptop?
Me 😁: Yes, since the only use of windows is primarily to play games and the games I play are usually supported on linux, I dont see any reason why my daily driver should be anything other than linux.
Interviewer 😯: What distro is this?? Looks cool.
Me 😆: Its Ubuntu with KDE Plasma. There are some really cool things in here which actually make my life quite easier.
Interviewer ☺️: I must check this out today itself. Lets start with the interview then.
Me 😊: *Blushing in my mind
And this is how you score some instant brownie points in an interview. Actually if truth be told, that laptop was actually my work laptop and my personal laptop has windows on it because nvidia and Assassin's Creed.19 -
When you unfuck a git repo with many parallel branches that have cross bred much more than European royal families.2

In my second year,
I told my teacher I can code in in C#(c-sharp).
She replied : C-sharp ? Oh you mean C-hash !
*that day I lost hope in college*32 -
When i get kids. They are NOT allowed to have online game accounts until the age of 14.
I'll still teach them how the internet works. i'll maybe allow facebook.
kids on the internet and in online games these days are toxic little brats.17 -
"Don't use git, it is too complicated and we don't have time for this."
2 days later the same person made changes directly on the FTP which I later unknowingly overwrote.
Take that you imbecile!13 -
Just want to recommend the DevRant stress ball. I wasn't quite sure how to use it (it doesn't come with instructions) but since stuffing mine down the PM's throat my stress level has reduced dramatically.4

One of the dev in my team literally asked us (other student devs, professor, and a guy from the company we were working with) this question during a weekly scrum meeting:
"Who is this Jason you guys keep talking about? He never showed up to any of our meetings!".
A bit of context: we were 6 weeks (halfway) into our FINAL YEAR PROJECT for a bachelor in software engineering...
I thought at first he was joking...9 -
Friend: "Why did you buy a Macbook Pro? Look at the specs, the RAM, the storage, the processor.. heck, ain't it overpriced? I wouldn't if I were you"
Me: "No, I didn't buy it. My company gave it to me when I joined them."
Friend: "Oh.. okay... hey, is there any job opening in your company?"13 -
I got attacked by ransomware and was asked for money...
I sent them my salary slip..They removed it from my computer immediately..
I wanna cry.14 -
I want to go back to the times where "bugs" were beetles and grasshoppers, nothing related to code or computers.
Why did I sell my soul to programming???
And most importantly, why doesn't my code work???12 -
Dear Apple.
Charging $99 for a one-year developer account is bullshit.
Best regards,
Me and every other tech-student on this planet.34
