They will appreciate it I'm sure 😅 until the next plan ends up the same way.
-
It's getting better.... Straight out of the face-palm manual.
Them : we want to pinch development to end of Jan (3 months) so we double the team size..
Me: it never works that way -
They lifted that ban on engineers when It got tired of being hounded by devs for admin rights to install tools... So basically make it a daily nag, they give up 😅
-
Day #4 - the feeling I've just grabbed a moving train has subsided. I'm just, now doing that... Mmm why do you do it like X? Devops choices are a 'interesting'..
-
Day 1 - a symphony of WTFs, great culture, but quite a bit of legacy code though and some questionable deployment approaches... #challenge
-
I'm curious we're any moaners here at angularconnect London?
-
Vivaldi so far has been nice.... Chrome with plastic surgery...
-
Well tbh angular 1.x yeah... The mystery box that kept on giving.. but angular 2+ has been mostly intuative... (Mostly)
-
Yeah it's a shame, better get my public profiles back in shape hah, just in case
-
I should highlight that by interesting the two strapping takeaways were
" Don't think too hard about it, it will drive you crazy"
And
" If full disclosure sows discontent perhaps i shouldn't tell you these things"
Interesting to see how he thinks if nothing else... -
Yeah, i pretty much outlined my concerns privately and it was 'interesting'.
Decision had come from the board level and was a long time in the mix.
Interesting also was said employees visa was providing he relinquish all ties of ownership to the business. He's playing a slippery game here in my opinion because a little due diligence ( 5 minutes on Google) and i found his wife's name under a job postings for said company 'listed as manager. His father is the CEO.
My concern about all of this largely falls around two things, one, I'm not his biggest fan which you must take into account , it's fair to say I'd be happier for the success of anyone else.
The second , slightly related to the first, is now i feel i have to 'be careful' around him. My perception is he is no longer just one of my Devs , he is a bi-proxy, 60% part owned partner companies, son.(who is more of a hidden director).. it's making things feel a bit 'complicated'. I guess i like my work life simpler. Thx for thoughts. -
The sweetest irony of this project was/is that their content teams couldn't keep up with us...
-
Uncle Bob would say all three comments are needless and simply naming the functions better would do... Just saying
-
Hah , yeah so today every compromise we offered was knocked back with euphemisms tantamount to 'no - figure it out' ... Their solution, 'let's pull the senior team and other team leads into a 3 hour meeting to bring them up to speed', say the same things again in slightly more virulent fashion... I guess they were hoping for a userper to say "it can be done" but... more awkward silence and a great use of our time.. #your-content-was-late #slave #make-it-so #timemachine

Haha thanks @all for the nice words and top tips, it's always reassuring to hear from survivors ;-). I will pop back and update the thread next month when we hopefully get to find out that ultimate answer
Boy or Girl... -
I recommend a good read that might be of interest in the spirit of the thread. "Outliers: The story of success by Malcolm Gladwell"
It even has stories on Gates and his opportunities not just his hard work.
On a more realistic thought , a smart man said to me once, don't chase the money, do what you love to do and it won't feel like work... -
Fair and so familiar it's eerie...
-
Haha, SHE was definitely having a 'moment' but all ended well... Rant aside, I showed them how to compress their presentations better...
-
That made for a surprisingly thrilling minute...
-
VS Code for projects.... Sublime for quick edits
