Express your concerns. There's a good chance your boss has thought of it and will be using the outsourced developers strategically. (Read: in a way that incorporates their incompetence). Also, maybe he has an eye to move the new hire out of development and into management.
It does sound a little fishy or like it could be a conflict of interest. Keep an eye out and voice your concerns professionally, maybe at a level or two above your boss.
If I were you, I'd keep an eye open for other opportunities, just in case. You don't want to be stuck in a bad situation at work, but I wouldn't seriously look at leaving just yet. -
Yeah, i pretty much outlined my concerns privately and it was 'interesting'.
Decision had come from the board level and was a long time in the mix.
Interesting also was said employees visa was providing he relinquish all ties of ownership to the business. He's playing a slippery game here in my opinion because a little due diligence ( 5 minutes on Google) and i found his wife's name under a job postings for said company 'listed as manager. His father is the CEO.
My concern about all of this largely falls around two things, one, I'm not his biggest fan which you must take into account , it's fair to say I'd be happier for the success of anyone else.
The second , slightly related to the first, is now i feel i have to 'be careful' around him. My perception is he is no longer just one of my Devs , he is a bi-proxy, 60% part owned partner companies, son.(who is more of a hidden director).. it's making things feel a bit 'complicated'. I guess i like my work life simpler. Thx for thoughts. -
I should highlight that by interesting the two strapping takeaways were
" Don't think too hard about it, it will drive you crazy"
And
" If full disclosure sows discontent perhaps i shouldn't tell you these things"
Interesting to see how he thinks if nothing else... -
Yeah, that's not a very comforting message. "oh, you don't like my decision? Well, next time I just won't tell you." is not a good response.
I would start to familiarize myself with the local job market and start saving up just in case. Sorry your boss sucks. -
Yeah it's a shame, better get my public profiles back in shape hah, just in case

@all, picture the scene, your employer hired a Dev into an equal level role to you, he was running his own company, handed off to his father and brother. You now hear your employer is purchasing 40% in said company to outsource 'certain' projects too (off shore developers). You don't really rate this developers skills AND the work so far from this outsourced group has been sub par. How does this make you feel? What issues do you perceive? Am i right to feel concerned?
