Guy: *hands me sheet of paper* What does this code do?
Me: *looks through code written on the paper* Well, most likely segfault.
*awkward silence*7 -
The first ever actual book about software development and comp-sci theory that I am trying to read. Wish me luck!10

Worst: I lost development contract - probably due to covid - after 4 years of work. I got email when I was at bank seconds before signing mortgage for my first apartment.
I signed it anyways as a technically unemployed person without income looking at the world collapsing.
Best: I gained new contract with 40% money raise. Fuck yeah ! -
Guy on Facebook: *asks a simple question*
Me: *crams an entire bachelors degree into a single comment*3 -
Today I spent 25 minutes explaining to this dev that there’s no way that a http request can access directly to an ftp server and retrieve a file.
A dev with 4 years of experience...17 -
I would spend all the unlimited time starting multiple exciting projects and never finishing any of them.4

Just found out, as of Nov 16, I've been on StackOverflow for 10 years.
I wish it was remotely as good as the old days.7 -
"Lawsuit Alleges Facebook Favors H-1B Visa Workers and Other Temporary Visa Holders over U.S. Workers"
And no one was surprised. Not that this will make a dent in the labor arbitrage problem, but at least it's evidentiary confirmation it's happening. If it goes through it'll likely mean a slough of follow-on lawsuits for the thousands of companies doing the exact same thing, and a cottage industry to find new creative ways to continue being predatory assholes.

Day 3 of getting this god forsaken react app to launch!!
My fucking god you cock suckers make life difficult.
Npm install - they say
Npm start - that say
Npm - go swallow my god awful error log and fix all these dependencies
Npm - here's a dependency that didn't install but I need it
Npm - what do you mean your not using a fucking Mac with sass files!
C0D4 - I'm this.close() to fucking stabbing someone!12 -
When will managers understand that there is a huge difference between a UX designer and a graphical designer?!
FML. The time wasted trying to explain that the proposed GUI is rubbish because they put a graphical designer in charge of planning the entire application flow..4 -
Invest more into stocks.
Started trading a bit at the end of last year ,made some solid returns. Have quite a bit of cash laying around so I think I'll just invest and spread over companies I believe in as I only plan on using the cash in the next year or 2. Work on some of my personal projects, because I didnt last year - at all. Also work out a bit. Got a bit of a chub going on during the pandemic. Learn GO. Upskill and maybe look into switching companies.
Buy some shit. Been saving around 80% of my paycheck for almost 2 years now... I've bought a roof over my head so it's time to spend some of the cash to get a few things to enjoy myself. Sell some unused stuff. Vomited some thoughts.
Wish everyone to achieve their goals!2 -
When you realize that the non-native web-based Spotify App for macOS is faster, prettier, more responsive, more robust and more useful than the native Apple Music app... Good job, Apple.3

Well, guess I'm eating my shoe it seems .-.
(Trying to get font rendering working in SDL2 and for whatever reason, loading a direct TTF file works but as soon as I load it into RWops and pass to SDL, it suits the bed)9 -
Just got this coding task from a recruiter trying to determine what they want.
This for a front end job but we talked about api/network calls.
Are they just looking for the UI or do they want me to make the agency names dynamic through the different databases?
The recruiter is kind of clueless.
How would you approach this.11 -
"The library you recently wrote appeared on my github feed. I haven't read all of the readme yet, but you already deserve a star for the documentation and the name" - CTO
Today was a good day1 -
I fucking love how the Cyberpunk 2077 disaster goes down... and then, silently, Kerbal Space Program 2 pushes their launch date back again by another year.
Lol, is someone a little afraid? Take your time, boys.20 -
*has a great company name idea*
*tries to register domain*
*domain taken*
*looks at whois*
*i already own it*
i don’t know how to feel11 -
- Document the current architecture & code for new hires as well as existing people to get a grip on the logic (not everyone understands it)
- Figure out what MLOps is
- Build at least one front-end application to understand the hardships of UI devs -
In spanish we don't say "stop being afraid" o "have no fear" word by word through translation. We say "ya no seas panocha" which roughly translates to "find bravery within you" and I think that this is beautiful.
For people that are constantly afraid we don't call them fearful in standard translation, we refer to them as "panochon" which attempts to remind them that they are in fact brave.
Use the word my friends. No sean panocha.20 -
Pet peeve: When people use "Jira" to mean story / task / sprint / epic.
*Real* pet peeve: When people use it with more than one of the above meanings in the same sentence.
"Will we finish this Jira (story) by the time we close the Jira (sprint) on Monday?"
Dude, wtf. I actually have to decode your sentences to figure out what you're on about. Just learn the right terminology. It's not hard.10 -
Why do recruiters say you need 5 years of experience for a certain framework when the framework was released 2 fucking years ago. Don't they consult with engineers what they want or do they just think of a random fucking number and write it down. And why do they think the OOPs concepts are totally different for all programming languages?? Also the job descriptions are usually very vague and ambiguous.
JD for SDET: you will work with engineers and help build scalable solutions bla bla
JD for SDE: you will work to build scalable solutions bla bla
Is this deliberately done so that a poor candidate wastes his or her time applying for a wrong position or even giving an interview??4 -
A client asked us today to disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 across their servers.
Its not often that I say this. But this makes me proud. It's a good client. Going with the changin times. I wish all clients were like this one.
RIP TLS 1.0/1.1, took you long enough.2 -
Fried potatoes with mushrooms.
In Russian, if potatoes was fried with the mushrooms, the word "fried" (жаренная) contains two letters "n".
If potatoes was fried on their own and only then you added mushrooms, the word "fried" (жареная) contains one letter "n".
You can replace frying, mushrooms and potatoes with different things, but as soon as the concept of "processing ingredients together versus independently" persists, the rule applies.11 -
My manager is so insecure about us working from home that he has started stalking everyone on social media...4

> be me
