I'm not sure I have a "favourite" per-se, but Grace Hopper certainly features high up on the list. We might not still all be writing in machine code had she not existed, but such "higher level" languages would certainly have been many years behind where they are now.

"What's your degree in?"
Electrical Engineering.
"So, you do coal stations and stuff?"
Nope. I look for powergrids to optimise with the help of Neural Networks.3 -
Me: "Hey <coworker>, I got this mistake do you know why?"
Coworker: "Seems to me like you didn't put <thing> in there"
Me: "No way, I just edited it here"
*looks at file*
"Oh, I didn't save that"
*saves file*
"Oh hey, it works now 😅"
Office: 🤣🤣🤣
Mondays, I guess 🤷♂️3 -
Manager: "How long do you think this will take?"
My brain:
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Don't do it
Me: "Shouldn't take too long"4 -
The commonly touted "best" experiences are when you just get told "wow, this code is amazing!"
I hate those code reviews.
The best ones are the ones where I get my code completely ripped apart by 10 different people in 10 different ways. Some of them might be amazing. Some of them might be arseholes thinking slating other people's code is how you climb the career ladder. But they all generally teach me something, and they all cause me to stop and think "hmm, have they got a point, or is my original design better?" The discussion that comes from those reviews is also often very interesting; and (when done well) the whole process can become somewhat of a teambuilding exercise for everyone involved.2 -

I'm working on an open source openvpn client for linux with a gtk gui and some cool features i have in mind. I wrote most of it's daemon and now i'm going for the gui. But,... the problem is..., i'm not a ui dev, so every ui i make is awful. I feel like i'm either stuck or have to choose one of my bad ui designs. what do you think i should do? how can i get some help?6

Email from a client today: The programmers just need to add an "if/then" code that IF ... BUT NOT ... THEN ... ONLY ... AND ...
God help us if they discover while5 -
Not sure if Google is surprised this happens or they really never face issues using Gradle
Edit:
Took 4 minutes to compile a basic flutter app. But it takes 1.3 minutes to compile a native app. So far liking flutter, still hating React Native tho1 -
For my peeps in the RoR arena, did y'all ever felt the need to change from ERB as yout server side rendering engine of choice?
I find it hard to use anything else, i would normally stick to it unless I was using Rails as an API and leave the frontend to React or Vue.
Asking about y'alls opinion because I knew about HAML from a while back. But never really used it and I find Rails with ERB to be really efficient.
Ruby pagebuilding with ERB is really flipping comfortable man.ERB has been my favorite for years.
Currently migrating a project to use Svelte and wanted to see what some of y'all think about Haml or erb. Just for the sake of curiosity. Don't know how many rails users we have in here.5 -
"Helvetica is like a really good friend. You go off and hang with the other fonts (the artsy, grungy, trendy, thin, fat, tall, scripty types) and even use them a little, but helvetica is always there. A nice stable friend." - Andrew Frigo3

Me: this App is not working ...
... Few minutes later ...
Me: Can someone help me?
Coworker approaches : Are you trying to modify the bundle.js file?
Me: ...
Coworker tells the whole team and they start laughing at me 🤦♂️9 -

Fuck spent like 2 days just to figure out dev build packages since they doesn’t allow nuget restore on dev server4
