I used to struggle with that. It's not so much that my memory sucks, but if I don't find something interesting or important I just discard the information! Had to train myself to make an effort with names and faces when I started my last job, but it does pay off.

@kaqqao I have a horrible feeling you're right!
-
I prefer writing my own CSS, but I haven't had to work on anything giant. I can see how preprocessors can come in handy.

England :)

It's pretty cool, I've been working through a tutorial on YouTube by thenewboston which does a good job of covering the basics, and there's tons of documentation around.
If you're starting web development from scratch though, I'd recommend getting to grips with html and CSS first. -
Hope it goes well :)
-
Yeah, that's my thinking. Or punishment for not using captchas?
-
Oh wow. That's gonna take some learning, especially as I've not touched Python before, but the amount of documentation compared to Xataface is insane(ly good). Okay, thanks for this :)
-
Thanks for the suggestion @cdrice I'll have a look!

Xubuntu for my laptop, although I've been considering Manjaro for a while.

What an asshat. I have someone where I work who insisted on downloading a communal Google sheet so that he could work on it in Excel, then changed a bunch of the columns around so I had to merge it manually. You have my sympathy!
-
Can't say I've been through exactly that journey, but I've definitely dropped out of a fair few things in order to move forward! Ultimately, if it got you where you needed to go, then that was the way it had to be. Glad to hear you like the way things are going now, it's a great feeling :)
-
Good luck :)

Personally, I try to work on skills / tasks I can argue are job-related. But then here I am on devrant sooooo...

Here's a ++ to take you one step closer to your dream :)

Hope it goes / went well :)

Bugs me too! I want to understand how to solve a problem, I don't want a prepackaged solution that even the answerer doesn't properly understand.
-
Yeah, people complain about it, but it's all over the web; it's definitely a useful skill to have :)
-
High five!! :D
-
@vanhoosr yes I have :) I remember seeing a music video for them years ago and just sat there mesmerised.
-
That's the cleanest UI I've ever seen. Kudos on the minimalist style ;)
-
For getting through boring repetitive tasks, I like classical music, ambient progrock, anything where it's not too jarring and there's no lyrics to distract me. For problem solving, gotta have silence or I get pissy.
-
Thanks, that helps, although in this case I think I had conflicting styles, which is why it wasn't showing how I expected!
-
I use Xubuntu for my little laptop, and would happily recommend it for most basic tasks. For beginners I think Ubuntu or Linux Mint are also good options, and like @Tvercruysse said, starting with a virtual machine is a good way to experience a full install and get used to the new environment.
-
Good luck! :)

They should put those five folders in a single folder to make it smaller.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster accepts all strings, for they remind him of his noodly appendages.

I do this in Excel, but when I hit left arrow to go back and fill in the formula, it thinks I'm trying to input the cell next door. It's very frustrating.

I know you can disable a lot of the bumpf in Windows 10, but that they include the ads at all is ugly. I expect ads on a website, but I want my OS to be a safe space where I can just get on with work and not be distracted. Bleugh.
