@Intronout sadly, only in the homoiconic world of Lisps
-
And code is data. Data is code.
-
@samblaise read up on the Hidley-Milner inference and the ML family of languages type systems. Why are you arguing without informing yourself first?
-
why would you use lodash for just one function? It's just a stupid generalization.
-
@jp1871 yeah, and it's a method and can't be easily composed. I bet you haven't thought of that case.
-
And why's that?
-
@franga2000 Of course it doesn't. Think about a value that must be of type X. Yes, it could be of type X, also might be Null. If a function returns the type X, the same thing applies, but also the function might never return due to infinite recursion for example, or it might throw. This type system gives a false feel of stability and security. Not to mention the verbosity.
-
@techno848 This is not about web or not, it's about dynamic typing.
-
Believe me, after working with a real type system, Java, C++, C# etc. seem out of place... I mean, the whole languages. :D
-
@RantSomeWhere The same with me. I saw it when it came out but passed... mistake.
-
@AleCx04 Just bought everything. I'll load my Kindle like a porn start. :D
-
I was wondering about this bundle. You convinced me! :)
-
@Codex404 It's an ORM, you never have full control over the database. I still don't know why people prefer to learn a DSL, when SQL is not hard and it's actually a very useful language.
-
Manjaro is many times better than Ubuntu. More stable, more user friendly, not Debian based, AUR. What's more to ask for.
-
This is like, you know, your opinion, man.
-
No guarantee there won't be null...
-
@sharktits I'm not an Ocaml dev but I like the language as the others from the ML family. They are all great
-
@jonii well, it comes a time when new things are to be tried. ;)
-
@TheOct0 how long depends on the person. How long and what have you written in Ocaml to say it's unpractical? Ask Jane Street if it's unpractical, ask Yaron Minsky. :)
-
@TheOct0 It's very practical. And that's how good languages are, complex. Functional programming requires a lot of thought and mental capabilities and that's why it's not the mainstream. You can't employ Indians for 1 buck am hour.
-
Says the guy who listed in his profile js, react and redux. :D
-
@sharktits I wish I could do the same...
-
@TheOct0 someone doesn't like a good type system which actually works?
-
Who tf would use notepad++ on Linux. There are plenty of great editors.
-
How did you got this new job? Who sets variables to null? :D
-
Developers most of the time don't know how to write programs, let alone know every error code.
-
Plain black coffee. Sometimes with milk.
-
@error503 That's how it should be. If you don't take them seriously, chances are you'll be stuck with old knowledge.
If you want to be takes seriously, do a side project, for your company if you can. Make it open source so they can read your code. -
@geaz why's that?
-
Working at Microsoft doesn't correlate with being stupid. The guy is obviously decently intelligent.
