I'm glad that you found a good company, I wish that there is a way to know such things before joining.
-
Congrat!
Did you use a different approach this time? :) -
@magicMirror nice one!
I have to admit I learned a lot from DevRant, that makes it now the my go-to place for study time :D -
@Demolishun I never thought about this :D
I should ping you when I have to deal with annoying people -
when you think that you have seen most of the weird stuff with recruiters, they don't cease to surprise you :D
-
@dakkarant that's sad, I can only imagine how frustrating is your experience.
I worked once with a similar team format and I asked everyday our product manager: "Hey, I'm working on A, and I see that you want me to work on B, which one has the most priority as I can't work on both tickets at the same time?"
Well, I had an interesting comment from that manager on my annual reviews (we have a system that gets peers reviews as well). The person mentioned that I can't deal well with pressure and I ask about priorities because I'm confused/overwhelmed. -
@ReverendLovejoy I hope that I could, it's even worse than that, a lot of tools will be replaced by Microsoft products as part of merging two companies together.
At least, I'll have now an excuse to miss all urgent messages (notifications) :D -
And my company is planning to ditch Slack and move to Teams :/
-
I'm curious how is the situation with your colleagues in the same team, do they have the same amount of tickets? and from the reporting system is the workload balanced?
-
I'm glad that you dodged that bullet, it looks like a big red flag to me.
-
That's a horrible experience :/
I can imagine that a lot of companies aren't still used to be fully remote mode and onboarding will always be a hassle for new joiners -
@djeddiej I have worked once with a manager who has a similar technical background.
For me, that was the best experience that I had in my career and I wouldn't leave that company if he stayed. -
@electrineer kind of but now we have a mandatory overtime shift.
-
I can only say "respect", sticking to your standards despite knowing the risks is a sign of being brave!
-
Out of curiosity, do you take naps in the office or just in the home office?
-
This is a piece of art :D
-
@Fast-Nop that's exactly what made me angry about those requests.
I shared those aspects with my manager but he said that's what the customer wants.
And that's why I'm mentioning now that any issue is a change request as a way to push them to do their job. -
@yesNo don't stress it too much, I was also pushing a lot when I started my career.
But there are different approaches to improve and grow besides writing code.
For exp: you can watch some conferences, read tech books and so on .... -
Motivation after work? what is this? 404 not found :D
Jokes aside, be careful and avoid burnout at all cost :) -
You have to learn to say "No"
-
HR logic :D
-
@johnmelodyme I was seeing it from the positive side haha
-
I'm glad that tuned out well in the end, luckily you had this new manager that seems to have a technical background.
-
When the balance is too big to be displayed :D
-
@petergriffin that a good example haha :D
It seems that you have a fun time also with waiting for your PRs to get reviewed. -
This is sadly common in some companies, they always underestimate how long it takes for a new hire to be productive, in some departments it can take years. Yes, years to get to the level of that person that they didn't want to keep.
And the funny thing about such places, they always talk about loyalty (so it could be a flag to watch ;) ) -
@Bikonja this is so underrated, thanks so much for highlighting this.
It seems that's the only way to make some managers appreciate the value that you were providing. -
This seems like a catch-22, so what approaches do you suggest in this case?
-
That's really sad especially if it could be a source of a serious data breach.
Do you think it's safe to point this out? -
@craig939393 this advice is just golden!
