Don't use personal assets for Work-related stuff when you are not a Founder!!!
If they are not ready to pay, You should be either!
Also if shit hit the fan you could be liable... -
@true-dev001 A comment from a "recruiting manager".
I never recruit people ONLY on tech skills. Tech skills are the bare minimum for me. What do you bring to the table? Mindset? Soft-skills? Different upbringing?
People tend to think that only tech skills should matter, but it so totally not true. On teams where most had uncommon training (most of them changed career mid-way), I recruited people coming out of Uni with CS degrees.
Teams are human constructs, if you only have uniform thinking shit will hit the fan.
But I have NEVER taken in a bad Software Engineer because of "quotas" or other stupidity.
But I have taken people sometimes with fewer tech skills because they had a good synergy with the team.
I don't do genius assholes, because I can't make an untrustworthy dick a trustworthy team player.
But I can create the conditions so a Good Trustworthy Software Engineer ramps up to become an excellent one. -
Cashing out for a couple of years?
Retiring?
Waiting a excruciatingly slow death? -
@devTea way too late, but I like the "energy/synergy" bs for that like.
"I'm sorry but I didn't feel a good synergy between us. The position seems cool but it just didn't click"
I have a friend that basically use "break up" bullshit to do it... -
@Floydimus being human makes it very difficult... And as said, I'm a shithead... Intrinsically... And yes, it makes some shit way more difficult...
NB: enjoy your long and slow death... As we all should. -
@Floydimus euh... I get that you don't like the idea, and I don't give a fuck about it... As you should...
Mob (lynching) phenomenon is always damaging. And giving the neural research and manipulation social media can do (at level scale never seen before), it can have a phenomenal impact on younger people mental health...
And I have encounter IRL danger way more than virtual...
All that being said I'm human, ergo a shithead XD -
@johnmelodyme perspective man, stupide people bitching on stupide social media... Not a real threat....
-
@johnmelodyme well part of my famille was cancel by a right military junta... So...
-
@Root are you not just talking about US citizens? XD
US have a racist way of thinking (and the I'm 1/1k Irish like). And the segregation a lot of "races" do are a good way to see it. And yes, it's cultural! And no, if you haven't lived in Ireland for a long period you're not Irish (I still think you're awesome @Root. !!!). French people tend to have a more xenophobic way of thinking...
And yes, there are big cultural differences, and being monochronic or polychronic is one (and I fucking want to kill South Americans for being polychronic mother fuckers!!).
But I'd say it is way more cultural (ethnic if you wish). I know Japanese descendants who never lived in Japan (Peruvian) who are fucking polychronic, which is normal as Japanese culture isn't the majority of their culture...
Even if sadly, the US is really good to market their own culture (with their own fucking problems)... -
Also, UT, IT, FT, and E2ET are only auto-compliance methods... Which is cool, necessary BUT NOT sufficient!!!
Exploratory tests, sometimes monkey testing, and chaos testing are needed to have real Quality Assurance (and segregation of responsibilities enforced between the "implementer" and the "tester").
That's the difference between ontology and epistemology... -
@magicMirror At least you have the novelty value! For me, it's more like: New Place = Some old stupidity!
@molaram you can like some ethnic group as a whole package? I don't think there is a group where, as a group, stupidity rises following hyperbolic growth...
And yes beer! And not some crappy heineken, corona, or other bud shit... Some Craft stuff!!! -
@boombodies a lot of businesses do not differentiate the output (features you ship) from the outcome (add value you give to your client/good growth)... So before the Tech rotting start, the produt as totally rotten (deadly salmonela like) and they see it as "technical problems" or other "engineers can't predict"... And yes, it's so fucking bullshit!
-
@Floydimus you're human, so you probably fucked up a shit ton (like everyone else!!) but your failures and stupid ideas do not define who you are. And reflecting and using your rationality to correct your ego biases it's good.
Now, useless mother fuckers are useless mother fuckers (that should die) whatever ethnic group they come from... And they come from ALL FUCKING ETHNIC GROUPS!!!! SO MANY MOTHER FUCKERS SHOULD DIE!!!! but I digress... -
@iiii it's crazy sometimes how something that should be normal (rational way of think while working) is not.
You are lucky... Which is really sad for our industry! -
@iiii you might think that because it seems rational... Now a lot of management have no skills related to... Management... So they set incentives that do not help to ensure that critical stuff is prioritized...
-
If the system's main incentive is to finish your own tasks without worrying about your teammate's problems, then just do it.
Then asks yourself if, it's the kind of value you're OK validating by staying in the company. -
I wonder if some companies send their future management to some kind of Management Training led by Dilbert's company...
-
WHY THE FUCK do you want to call them?? They'll be here soon enough to ask stupid questions...
Don't humanize them by referring to or talking to them!!! Just ignore them and keep repeating "Have you tried to turn it off and on?", and if you can have a machine say it, better! -
@melezorus34 someone has to make sure they don't keep going... They career project should be dropped.
-
Spent some time interviewing for full remote works, and loved two companies that did 2 days and 1 week, paid work as "final tech validation".
So for each, you had to do some project/stuff production-ready BUT they did pay me a pretty good daily rate (around 800E)...
And I was using their software factory (including a good dev platform)
Loved it. Trying to see how the fuck I can implement it in my company. My team also loved the idea. -
EPIC
-
You seem to follow the bullshit belief of "top player", " real tech people".
The structure has way more important than what you think.
Also, the worst people in the industry are those who have enough knowledge to be "credible" and go up the ranks while being fucking useless/toxic/trash.
And most of them have a master's degree (bought by daddy/mommy).
The industry also breaks a lot of people.
Finally, of course, you have to do the extra work. You can't have a career (whatever the career) while partying every afternoon/night. But if you have to work every night/weekend... You are doing it bad/stupidly... Start being smart! -
Nevers casually sudo rm something
-
@Oktokolo if only! It'll be easy to solve.
How many JAVA use studiply hibernate because it's easy (with a stupid, disgusting data architecture)? Too many to count.
Python lets use NumPy without understanding what the fuck it does in reality? It doesn't make sense and it way too costly? Still answering under 1s so don't "over-engineer it".
Elastic search, because their MongoDB collections as fucking disgusting and not usable for what should be a basic filtering request.
How many relation tables in SQL, just cause... You know it's all decoupled and what can be 3 tables creates, is now a beautiful schema filling an A2 page...
We don't have communication problems BUT we need to do the daily because it can't work without it! And if you think it's useless, it's not because you already solved the problem the daily tries to solve, but because you're doing it wrong.
So much stupidity!!!! -
It's the epitome of French culture worst "Why make it simple when we can make it complex?" (Proverbe shaddock)
For everything. They took the "lightweight" idea and said, "Fuck it in the ass till death"!!!
WORST SHIT EVER!!!! -
Totally your IDE should let you not know how to write... Sure, totally its fault!
-
That's weird. In a lot of countries being a "website dev" is a low-paying job. But even if its almost never they most paying one, it's int the top half...
-
@Berkmann18 if you have a low-level job, you should be fucking afraid! Our great neo-liberal paradigm incentives companies to search for an always lower cost on "operations".
But let's be clear if you have a low-level job in the IT industry the offshore boom should be way scarier. And wait for the no-cost stuff to recreate an " integration" low-level... -
There'll always be "discrimination". Sadly being able to communicate and highly collaborate with people is not easy. There is a lot of ineffable stuff (humans being humans).
Now what is crazy is the level of stress and fear of being " replaced" by "less capable people". Now a shit ton of things are crazy in the US... So.... -
Men... so much stupidity...
Let's be clear only stupid companies hire people because of diversity.
Except in VERY specific fields, your tech skills are not enough! In the industry part, we are way past the "genius creep coding in his basement".
Tech skills are a MINIMUM! You have to bring something else to the bargain to have a really good position.
And yeah TRUE diversity is a plus. What's true diversity? Having different " life paths", contexts... People coming from the same neighborhood, going to the same high schools, colleges inside the same socioeconomic layers... All think pretty close!
And yes, it's a problem. If you don't get it, you dumb...
Now, the main problem is education and "common culture". And YES we have to change this.
NB: 6 months for a website? Are you compiling your kernel and build your keyboard die style? A normal website us 2w to 1 month MAX! If not, it's either not a website or you fucking it up..
