Anybody has any recommendations for a good headset that is over ear, has ANC & is wireless with a base station?
If I can't find a good one, I'm stuck with buying my own ANC headphones or using some "noise cancellation" headset, that literally does not cancel anything.2 -
How can a software developer be too incompetent to send a mail to the correct adresse.
My boss sent one to my private adress, instead of my work adress. I mean I know, autofill, but still second time this happened in one week..6 -
So I fucked up my toe, which makes walking rather annoying.
Never been happier to be a dev who sits on his ass most of the time.
Also yay swivel chairs.4 -
What are your favorite tools for a knowledge base? Like where you collect documentation within a team5

Anybody here using rocket chat? If so, what are your thoughts about it? From a technical and a user perspective4

Not really the start of a new job, but at a job interview I tried to pour myself some water and literally flooded the whole table :D
They invited me back for an internship actually, but I chose another company.1 -
I totally want to refactor my project's code, but I don't have any time for it and now it's a working piece of spaghetti-ish 😭
I'm just praying I'll get to do it once it's actually finished, so I don't have to work with it again in like a year and want to travel back in time and murder myself.13 -
I'm on my way to work and I forgot my headphones at home. It's horrible. I can hear people talk and stuff.
Luckily I got my trusty noise cancelling pair at work.1 -
Rip facebook apps.
Today at first it kicked me out of all my sessions, then I couldn't send pics in the messenger, then I couldn't accept new members for a group, now I can't even comment.
I wish I could know know who fucked up what :D4 -
Love it when you try to fix a bug and realize the bug only occurs in debug mode.
No clue why, but also not my fucking problem, users ain't gonna debug :D7 -
I really do love programming, but I really do hate implementing features that will make the database and code way more messy and complex. Which would be fine, if I wouldn't be quite sure the feature is utter bullshit and the user just can't really frame what they need.
And yes, I've asked my boss if he's sure if that's what they want and if not the other feature I implemented will fit those needs too. Yes, he is sure that they're sure they need exactly said requested feature.4 -
You're not a real dev unless you've made so many changes in your code without testing, that you're too afraid to actually test it.4

Today is the first time I really wished we would use git, or some good version control. My coworker kept working on my project while I was on vacation and now something isn't working. I'm just not sure if it's not working because I was dumb enough to accidentally STRG+X (I know, I'm dumb) some of his lines or whatever, but the point is I have no way to trace back what it looked like before and now I gotta fill the blanks by deduction I guess10

I'm currently starting to develop a simple web app to access a database, just simple read, write, update stuff. Doesn't need to be fancy or anything, just work.
Now I asked a PHP dev I know for help and he told me I should use Symfony and Easy Admin Bundle. I'm not sure rn if it'd be worth it to get to know how to work with frameworks or not. What do you guys think?
Btw, I'm not planning on doing a lot more web development.3 -
Last week I had two days training about how to code modern with the language I use.
Now I wanna refactor every single line of code I ever wrote :D3 -
One of the senior devs just showed me their documentation AND IT'S A FUCKING ONENOTE FILE WHERE EVERYBODY JUST WROTE WHATEVER THEY THOUGHT SHOULD BE WRITTEN DOWN IN RANDOM PLACES
Atleast it's some sort of documentation I guess.2 -
So I just did my morning shopping and only one register was open. There was an older gentleman in the front, who took some more time getting cigarettes and paying his total. Well Mr. Important in his nice suit decided that took too long: "Lady! Please open another register! People don't have time, I have to go to work!"
The cashier called in for another register to be opened and once that guy made his way to the other line, she said "My mother always told me, if you don't have time for shopping, don't." 😂
ALSO GUESS WTF THAT GUY WAS BUYING, JUST A SOME CHEAP FUCKING CIGARILLOS HE COULD'VE GOTTEN EVERYWHERE ELSE THAT'S NOT A SUPERMARKET -
Back when I started my career (12 months ago lol), I was in IT support. Having to deal with people who have hard times locating and reading off a sticker, let alone telling me their IP adress, only to realize it's the whole store that's offline, not only their PC (gosh do they ever talk with each other). So I decided to code a small tool that shows your hostname and IP adress, and pings the router, firewall and Google DNS. Aaand just in case the number for the IT hotline. Plan was that we could just tell them to double-click on that one icon on their desktop and read out what it says. We deployed it and I was happily waiting for it's time to shine (still a trainee I was also kinda proud of it), but when the network engineer found out, he wasn't happy about it at all. He was afraid too many people would open that new tool without us telling them to do so and/or forget to close it, producing a number of pings to the router, firewall and google. He went on about Google maybe blocking our IP if we produce too many pings and so on.
In my opinion he was kinda overreacting, but he wasn't that wrong and is a nice guy and responsible for our network, so we recalled the tool and never actually used it.2 -
I'm kinda looking for a new phone, should be super cheap (so a used one would do), I wanna modify it to be secure (proper encryption, VPN, etc.), very good battery time and not very big (more like 4"). I have been looking at the Lenovo P2 a lot, but I'm afraid my current phone will die before I have enough money for that one (I'm a broke trainee yay).
So what do y'all have or can recommend?3 -
Always nice coming into office with 4h of sleep, realizing you're the only developer in today, so all support stuff falls on me. Which is evenmore fun since I'm still a trainee and don't know everything yet.
Oh and I also spent 1h explaining the logistics/IT director how to generate a label to send off a package and then scanning said labels in. -
Any suggestions for an open source/free version control/git kinda thingy?
I'm working on a project and wanna share what I have so far with another developer, so he can add his work too without sending a billion e-mails with attachments.
Basically a cloud for developer teams.5 -
Actually I've never really drunk coded (eventhough I can be a bad drinker lol), but one time I was apparently discussing a problem I encountered with a friend of mine and we came up with a solution. All I had to write it down was a reciept from the supermarket though, but I totally forgot about it the next day, until months later when I was cleaning out my wallet and to this day I have no clue what I was trying to tell.3

I think I wanna get into AI; I wanna create an AI that configures and troubleshoots printers for me.
Those things are worse than the devil and all his demons together.11 -
Well before I left for my vacation I was moved to a desk, where I sit with the back to the door. Sucks, but I complied since I'm just a trainee and I was promised I would move in a new room after my vacation.
Well I'm back now and GUESS WHAT. The room I'm supposed to move in is not free yet and I still have to sit at this annoying desk..
