@donkulator Damn, that sucks.
You should (per contract) give her something right now when the lottery is not worth anything, so she release you from every other obligation. -
@jestdotty I would really try to work with you as a boss. I like challenges. :D
-
Interesting. So most of you would not see much value in it.
I work for a very small startup and most of us have shares. First I thought that would motivate us all to keep up the pace and we would push our selves.
But in the long term it turned out, that as soon as a single person thinks that one or two others don't do their part properly anymore, they also reduce their workload. Basically saying "I won't work for the others shares, if they don't work for mine". That again leads to others being frustrated and work at a lower pace and so on.
Some are nearly that frustrated, that they would rather give up their shares and leave the company, although even our salary is quite good here. -
My house, my hobby (including home automation). No time left for real dev stuff.

Therefor we should only react with :eggplant: 🍆
:) -
As a backend developer, I also asked myself this question.
I guess most classic websites can live with minimal javascript impact and maybe rely on jQuery and similar. And it seems to be the case for most sites out there (depending on which stats you believe) e.g. https://w3techs.com/technologies/...
So I guess there is a transition point, where a sites become apps, and working with jQuery becomes cumbersome. That's when developers really should switch to a framework.
But once used to it, a developer will use his framework of choice for next web project as well, even if not necessary.
Normal behavior I guess - I also use my electric drill for a single screw, even if I have to carry the complete case instead of a single screwdriver. :) -
@YourMom I switched to Java as well.
PHP - "We use the low skill barrier to attract more cheap developers." -
age in years? days? minutes? seconds? nanoseconds?
Please name your properties properly. :D -
1. At a public pool with the kids
2. why we humans neither can stay alone for long nor peacefully together -
I feel relieved. Sounds like good news to keep my job. =)
-
By the way: meanwhile I found the awesome "super productivity" app at github.com/johannesjo/super-productivity/
It will track time automatically to Jira whenever you stop a task. Maybe that helps. -
Ah, yeah. I've been there too. That's where I learned, that rounding to the next hour is a useful tool.
I mean if you get something to drink or go to toilet during a task, that also counts in. We are not machines, and even machines need maintenance. -
@BordedDev well, they don't write "we will use your code to improve the AI"
Instead its ambiguous like that:
> You retain any copyright and other proprietary rights that you may hold in the User Content that you Post to the Service, subject to the licenses granted in these Terms.
> By Posting User Content to or via the Service, you authorize us to use it to provide the Service and Suggestions to you.
Uhm, yes. -.- -
@tosensei
> if humans are actually dumb enough
=) Yes, that was proven true several times. And it's not "all humans have to be dumb", only one with enough power is enough and no one stopping it.
But I am not blaming anyone. I just want to estimate the risk. -
Yeah, I guess you all are right. And even if it's not a big thing yet, since most generated code is just a small fragment of a complete system, it will become an increasing problem when AI learns to write complete applications from scratch without any human/dev advisor.
-
Ask back: "when will you provide perfect requirements, 100% defined without undefined edge cases".
-
Less code, less bugs.
For me deleting code always requires some courage (maybe I need that someday again), but finally is liberating. More and more I am getting used to it. -
Send the wife to work and stay with them at home.
My wife reduced nagging when I told here, that I would love to stay at home with the kids and she should find a job instead. -
Oh, great kids are nice. Mine are sometimes driving me nuts :).
-
@Ranchonyx yeah, it's really worrying. :(
-
Rolls-Royce presented a concept car without a driving seat at all - fully autonomous.
Because Rolls-Royce always came with a driver.^^ -
What does "wheel less" mean? Are they floating? Or rather cant be moved anymore? I guess we call this a container. :D
Maybe they don't see a future in cars and rather build comfy containers now for all those NY citizens living on the streets. :) -
Jesus loves you. Also @jestdotty. Even Trump and every single idiot out there.
Hard to believe but true. :) -
@Hazarth I somehow like the different coding styles in our codebase. Sometimes I can even see from the style, who wrote it. And I think that's fine.
So I avoid discussions about those tiny style differences, because they are just a waste of time. That's why I also just change such tiny changes if the reviewer complains about it, even if I am annoyed by them.
Of course there are bigger bloppers, like +200 line methods with +4 nested loops I start to complain about in PRs. So there are limits in my tolerance. :) -
@jestdotty
> but what it means is you can trust her, and it would be very easy to know where she's at if arguments transpire
Oh, thats a good one. Haven't seen it like that. :) -
Just splitting an application into mservices does not do anything. You need proper APIs and architecture around it.
-
Chopin wood and working in the garden is the best for me to get my head relaxed.
Unfortunately I have too much to do in the evening and are completely tired, so I go for a quick drink. Not the best idea, but I have no better. -
I guess this is an observation bias: there are all kind of annoying people.
Vegans, Carnivores, Christians, Atheists, etc.. The more you have of them around you the more likely one of them is going to annoy you.
Go to one of the hardcore Arab countries - no Christian will annoy you.;-P -
The "del" command means "delete" not "delegate". ;-P

A former friend of mine once tried to save the game right before he took the drive-up to highway. In his real car. :)
