DISCLAIMER: UNPOPULAR OPINION
I'm tired of the Linux community, they effectively discourage me of taking part in any discussion online
I'm currently making Windows-only soft, some game stuff, some legacy DirectX stuff you got it.
Everytime I go online, this shitty pattern happens, when I stumble upon a problem in project I don't know how to fix and I ask for help
These are responses
- HA, HA, WINDOWS BAD, HA, HA, GET REAL SYSTEM
- In Linux, we can do X too. I mean it has 4x less functionality and way shittier UX and is even harder to implement but it can probably work on too Linux, so it's better, yes, just move to Linux
- btw you didn't like Linux before? Try this distro man, it's better <links random distro>
Is there anything valuable in the Linux community? I feel like these people don't like Linux anyway, they just hate Windows. Every opinion, tip is always opinion based. Anyone who works on internals knows how much better and how well thought is Windows kernel compared to Linux kernel. Also, if someone unironically uses Linux distro on desktop PC then he's a masochist because desktop Linux is dieing. So many distros ceased work only this year.
Is it a good tool for servers and docker containers? I don't have my head stuck up my ass to admit that yes, it's much better than Windows here.
This community got me stressed right now, I fear that when I go to bathroom or open my microwave there's gonna be a Linux distro recommendation there

company: some people just aren't a good culture fit.6 -
Im kinda hard of hearing, so every time I hear someone talk I subconsciously concentrate on the conversation instead of what I was working on.1

Someone else disturbing me while I'm thinking about technicalities. Makes me lose my shit because recollecting everything afterwards is often more difficult than the problem itself.
Note to self: tell cleaning lady to keep disturbances to a minimum when I'm working, and turn notifications on the Fandroids off before starting work. No I'm not interested in that Telegram message right now. And God bless OnePlus for putting in a physical slider for that.. more phone manufacturers should start doing this.4 -
Me and my wife are expecting a son soon, given her situation i was with her to the gynecologist...
He received us but i guess he was embarrased to ask to examine her while i was there, so conversation begins:
Doctor: "So... what do you do?"
Me: "I'm a programmer"
Doctor: "So, when a customer says there is some bug you need to take a look at the code to see whats up"
So yeah... someone compared us with the gynecologist :D
I mean... fiddling with my wifes coochie is one thing, but comparing my code with vaginas is the line i can't cross :D11 -
Is it weird that I don't wanna live to be hundred, but I'd rather do everything I wanna do as soon as possible?
Sorry to ask something like this here, but my friends are dealing with their own shit and don't wanna bother them.3 -
A long time ago in an office far away, my cube mate and one of my reports got into a fist fight. My cube mate got fired over that. Messed up everyone’s entire week.
A couple months later, 9/11 happened and we all had to evacuate the city. -
firefox is so private that they have broken their developer tools, so that no one can debug the web pages.5

Somebody tell JetBrains that government-funded projects that are publicly available and free are also FOSS and shouldn't be exempt from free licenses dammit9

Having to rely on individuals who frequently use the words "thing" or "thingy" to convey important time sensitive information.
Nothing is more infuriating.7 -
So I tell my coworker how ticking noises of clocks can annoy me really bad. It is an OCD thing where I will not notice a clock, then I notice the ticking and it annoys the hell out of me.
He leaves the room after a while after turning on a fucking youtube video with 11 hours of ticking clock.
I am like, "You fucker..."
Then another guy we work with comes into the office and pretends like he is wondering what the ticking noise is.
I said, "Yeah right, he sent you in here to ask about didn't he?!" He was like "maybe..."
Anyway, that must mean I am part of the team now. They are screwing with me. All in good fun.2 -
Spent 4 hours trying to make a query work and failed miserably.
Turns out I was using inverted commas around the value.

Heading to japan on the 12th, my first solo trip ever. I always wanted to visit it, but now because of my developer paycheck and me being annoyed because no one ever has the money and/or time I am heading there alone.
I think it will be a very enriching experience. I always felt like I'm often dependent on others so I am trying to take more steps to improve that.9 -
When you find this in production code and git blames you for this. Luckily no one can every see this log output, because the next statement closes the frame.

I run a Discord for a small community and I found a image I really liked as most new users seems to think it's OK not to read the rules or believe that respect must be a rule rather then a thing given by them by choice.5

I love this new description for my job... Programming: pressing plastic squares in more or less the right order... 😂
