You had the right idea :) It's the weekly rant this week! Was considering reposting my answer. You guys wouldn't tell on me would you?
-
I use flux and I like it but I have friends that just wear gunnars all day (and into the evening) infront of their computers- so that's an option to consider too.
-
@Seag they do. My employer is so over people that can program all day but can't write English prose or relate to other humans. In my experience, those people are the worst at designing UX.
Congrats on the battle bot! -
Breaking things can be constructive 😉
(Couldn't resist). -
I was thinking that too when I saw the github sticker on the fridge.
-
@bittersweet true. That's awesome that you were exposed to that at such a young age actually. Sounds like you have amazing parents.
-
@bittersweet haha I don't recommend letting any children play with soldering kits. Maybe that's just because my cat is wrapped in bubble wrap but Lego is cool too? Little bits (the electronic engineering toy) are colourful and safe too.
I completely agree with your point though- little boys and girls need to be empowered from a young age to do whatever they want. More men than women work in tech, and I find that changes product that they develop. I find very few feminine apps that are not patronizing. (Bellabeat leaf app is an example of an app that is not patronizing, most period tracker apps are...) -
You don't get good Friday off tomorrow?
-
@Dollique our project manager is very strict, she wants a short sentence beginning with a capital letter in present tense. Example: Fix bug with this specific thing.
I think it depends between projects and people though, but it's nice to have them consistant. -
I definitely do this too, but it's worse because I make the commit super general because I'm fixing something that should have never been an issue and I'm embarrassed.
-
I'm so sorry! RIP Lappy (maybe).
-
I work with someone that doesn't like "hot drinks." Which is not the only strange thing he insists on...
-
Worth it for the woodworkers Bible ;)
-
@barthclem that's a good point. Colours do pop more. After this thread I'm considering trying a dark theme out.
-
I feel like it's cool to have a dark terminal so that it feels like you're a hacker in a movie in the early 90s- but sometimes I think people go a little too far. I have a co worker with a dark theme chrome extension that makes everything dark. Dark theme Facebook is just weird.

Needed to set up an iPhone to test with from factory, borrowed the CTO's sim card from his personal phone, he handed it to me, I looked down and it was gone. I slipped out of the tray and I couldn't find it anywhere. (It slipped into a large white bin of misc electronic s and took the two of us 10 minutes to find). I really thought I was done but he just laughed.

Genius onboarding.

@valentindiehl 1. That's actually the point of "my rant," and 2. I don't want to get too specific about apps but I'm doing minimal design work but maintaining strings, writing wizards (json objects) and generating the databases. I'm working in java, python, and command line (not a big deal but took me some time to get comfortable with). When I break things- the apps crash. It is a bit more involved than handing the devs an image.
So I am trying to decide if I should spend my hours on code academy or if I should go find a job as a policy analyst or something. This app was recommended in the app store after I installed a UX companion and I thought I would do a bit of research into the community to help with that decision. It's been interesting...
I am learning a lot about myself. I am surprised I'm most motivated when people tell me I can't do something- so maybe that's why I'm attracted to this. -
I work for a password manager start up and bought these books as secret Santa gifts last year.
