Happy birthday!

Motorcycle boots. Seriously. Comfortable and will take the beating.
Alternatively military boots. Scratch those, you tried them. -
@HitWRight I don't. I'm blessed enough to get to use linux and the WM (stumpwm) of my choice for work. No need for a windows key. I use F keys but can remap as needed.
In the few instances I've needed Windows, I can run it in a VM. -
@heyheni Looks very cool, but I'd be in quite a pinch without my F keys
-
@RantSomeWhere I found two on eBay. If you run across one and the trackball doesn't work, it's still good to grab and repair. I'm still searching for a small form factor 84 key model M.

I use an IBM m5-1 from the early nineties. Had it and a another restored by phosphorglow. It has a built in trackball. After all these years the capacitor leaked and he was able to diagnose and fix it. I even brought it to the office and clacked away with impunity! Haters gonna hate!

I'm in a situation like yours. Look into remote work. There's a lot of opportunity for remote Magento work right now.

@Alice
That's where learning a distro vs learning Linux is akin to learning the fundamentals vs learning a framework. One gets you only so far, the other gets you all the way.
Then again I'm all thumbs on a Mac. Tried it, couldn't use it. I suppose old habits die hard. -
A good tiling window manager like stumpwm and portrait monitors become very useful.

You have my deepest sympathies, you poor soul....

I don’t even use version control. If you don’t know what that is then you’re not gonna yell at me. If you even know what version control is you’re gonna be like, ‘You don’t use version control? You don’t use source control? What is wrong with you? How can you even work?’
I’m just not cut out for it, in a sense. It’s been 15 years, so the reasons have change over time, but that’s my current understanding of it. I kind of have an academic background, so I am kind of like, ‘Put it out there.’ That’s my default mindset, but it just seems risky to me. -
edx is starting a Intro to Computer Science using Python from MIT in 4 days, no cost unless you want a certificate.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Ironically, I designed the T-shirt and it's hideous and looks bad on iPhone too.
-
@ctwx Not just use, but I support it with a DVD subscription. Now to find a DVD drive...

Hey if it's good enough for Dwarf Fortress...
-
@azous This must be the case.

Here's a solution we used at my last job. Worked really well. -
I have an original IBM M5-1 with integrated trackball, but the trackball doesn't work anymore. Matter of fact I have two. Wish there was a manual to fix them.
-
SQL because it's an acronym. Unless you say Fip for PHP, then Sequel makes sense.
-
yeah, a company I worked for had that. I wouldn't participate, so I had no name, sketchy title, and was at the bottom of the list.
