The butthurt over "oh, not us though, we're not brainwashed" is irrelevant to the point. He's talking about the world scope.
<trollbait>
It's also exactly what a brainwashed person would say.
</trollbait>
All this talk and arguing over the work you have to do to avoid it only further proves the point. Most people have no idea what any of you are talking about. -
I'm taking a class on electrical engineering but we're only building a dice kit and nobody will explain how or why it works. Kill me.

Make an alarm that scours youtube for obscure ska bands and plays them when you need to take your meds

The only joke here is the broom.
The amount of IoT devices is getting ridiculous. It just seems like such a novelty to me, that does more harm than good. I get using tech for our benefit, but why does everything require internet connections, account priveledges, and data gathering? I just want to dim my livingroom lights, not negotiate world peace. Jeez. -
I find scratch more difficult than python.
When I was a kid, I had one of those lego mindstorms robotics kits. I found the drag and drop programming so hard that I would rarely attempt to build or program anything. So I gave it away. I regret that.
If they could have shipped it with a scripting language, I would have had a harder time with hello world, but in the long run, I would have done much more with the kit and probably kept it. Now I just have a bunch of arduinos instead.... -
Bump. I'm primarily a Python dev but wonder how the job market is for Java.

I was not missing out on this.

I'm addressing this issue in my new JS framework

@sslPoodle I agree, it really puts our entire lives in perspective

You're a hero. I'm so sorry you had to suffer all that but I'm so glad you were there to help them. You did such a good thing.

So turned on
....and yet, so turned off.... -
Just realized my comment makes Linux sound like a drug.
A helluva drug.

Never have I been more relieved at a

I have but one complaint about VSCode on Linux. Ever use the FTP-connect feature of the file manager to work on remote machines? Well, the integrated terminal in VSCode wants to open projects in specific directories that just... really clashes with that feature. Other than that, I advocate it entirely, and if you're working off a flash drive, github repo, or locally, this is a non-issue.

It's currently under @notNSA use and should be freed within the hour.

Python Cookbook from O'Reilly is great if you can find a newer version. Just like the title implies, it gives you code for lots of commonly used dishes - I mean functions. Great for people who already know the language.

Let the people at Dell ++ you then

I was introduced to Linux by a stranger in a McDonald's parking lot. That said, you probably did more good than harm by putting the ideas in his head for later study.

@Fydrenak insert birth control joke here
-
@m0fo lots and lots of repetition, always making sure they watch exactly what you do so they see that they could totally do it, and talk about google like it's the best thing since sliced bread

Gradual and deliberate practice acting talkative and friendly, both with people you know and with strangers. You can also read up on emotional intelligence. I find that being more friendly makes people react more positively toward me, which greatly reduces both my social anxiety and overt self-awareness.

If you want an empty set of clients, it's perfect.

@Rekonnect is this bastard operator from hell or "understandable have a great day"?

This is entirely accurate. Also, I spent a summer updating a Python app in a lab. It's still Py2.
-
"Wow!"

At least it's something. It may not be amazing but it's something.
