[Dark Rant]

I'm sick of this stupid tech world.

Don't get me wrong, I love tech. I just can't stand anymore the global brainwashing that we're part of.

Think about all the huge companies making profit on our data. For a better service, yeah sure, but do we really understand what the cost is?

Ok sure, you don't care about your data because you trust these companies and the advantages are all worth it. What about the fact that we are all forced to buy the next new smartphone after 2 years?

Like if removable batteries were a problem for us, users. Or like the audio jack. Because now someone decided that the pricey wireless headphones are Just What You Need™.

Do you think you own your smartphone?
No, you don't. You are paying a bunch of money for something that soon will be just a useless brick of glass and metal which you can't repair. But you'll be happy anyway.

Someone is so happy to the point that they will defend their favorite company, doesn't matter how they decided to stick it into their ass.

Open your eyes, you've been brainwashed.

It would be nice if you wouldn't call ALL of us brainwashed.

No, fucking seriously. You have no idea how much fucking time I spend on trying to keep my data private.

'You pay for the smartphone, but the one who has access to the data owns it', Edward Snowden (pretty cool guy imo)

Also downvoted. The second you at least agree on the fact that not EVERYONE is like that, I'll turn it into an upvote AND a favourite.

Feel free to downvote my comments but keep in mind that privacy conscious people like me exist on here as well.

No ones forced to buy a new phone, likewise, no ones forced to use certain products.

Infact, the product you are using right now probably has a few analytical libraries, but you are fine with that? Like, the whole purpose of dev rant is to literally give away data.

You insult and complain about brainwashed people but offer no strategy to make them interested. People who don't care, don't care. If you care and want other people to care, you need to make them care.

Did you even think about your rant for more then 10 seconds?

    I agree but no.

You are nowhere near forced to buy a new phone every 2 years. It's your choice. You decided that a 1GB RAM smartphone wasn't gonna be enough for you anymore because the services you choose don't run on those. The smartphone industry was headed towards this the moment they introduced phone camera. Each year, new MPs were released. Later on, android was introduced and again, new versions release every year or so. It was supposed to be your phone, a device you use to call and text people. Instead, you want a mini computer.

Its development. Its change. We are probably the most progressive group of people in our society. Maybe non removable batteries had an advantage over removable ones. Maybe wired earphones aren't the way to go. Not wanting a wireless headphone is like not wanting a mobile phone instead of a landline. Our future is and had been headed towards wireless. One thing I have learnt is companies don't simply make design decision. Maybe it has some reason.

@linuxxx sure, next time I'll make sure to say "everyone except the careful ones", "everyone except those that don't use smartphones", "everyone except the people in the poor regions of Africa", and so on
  • 3
@Pizza You could just say 'most people'. Except for that part I entirely agree with you but in the way you're saying now I personally think that you're invalidating people who actually make effort to retain their privacy as much as possible.

@Condor they're awesome for sure, I just don't understand why should you *force* me to use them instead of a simple, passive, analog device like before. It's not that it didn't work well.

Btw I need to find out if there are low latency wireless headphones that I can use for music production
  • 3
@Pizza Oo what music do you produce? I want to get into music production myself!
  • 3
@linuxxx The interesting thing is that we, as developers, are probably the most cautious ones regarding these matters. Look outside this community. That's where my rant was pointing to
  • 1
@linuxxx Not "serious" music production XD I'm just a crappy keyboard and guitar player in love with classic rock
  • 2
@Pizza In that case I agree, turning it into an upvote and favourite.

Ah fair enough haha! I personally want to get into production of my favourite two genres and that would be a lot computer based!

@Jop- Any example of those edgy services?
  • 1
@Jop- I'm not a fan of "edgy privacy services", because I need Google anyway, for work and for some open source communities.

However, the fact that there are devices that learn from you means that, somewhere, there is a database with a lot of data about you. Which, for now, might be in good hands. In the future... you never know. That scares me.

I didn't want to talk about Hitler but I just mentioned him, so just think about what Nazism would be today.
  • 1
@Condor I hope all laptops still have headphone jacks 😨
  • 2
@Jop- Well you're free to look through signals source code and look for backdoors :) but opinions be opinions so fair enough, just don't agree.

Since riot includes the option of using end to end crypto through the Signal crypto protocol I love it yeah!

I know you really like telegram and although I do like its features, the usage of a home grown crypto protocol isn't a good idea in any case, or, at least not if you're not a cryptographer.

@Jop- they're adapters => they're unhandy => people will stop using them => analog jacks will die => mission completed.

I'm not against progress, I own a laptop with ONLY USB-C ports. That is progress over the old technology. Jack removal is not progress.
  • 1
@Jop- Well, every app could do that. You could also compile it yourself from the github repo.

Ah nevermind, thought you used it, my mistake. What do you use then?
  • 1
@Jop- No I mean like hit clone and simply compiling it and on the other hand, riot for android could also pack a backdoored version through google play.

    Which ones have you tried?
  • 1
@Jop- Why not stick to a removable battery Nokia phone?
  • 3
The butthurt over "oh, not us though, we're not brainwashed" is irrelevant to the point. He's talking about the world scope.
    <trollbait>
It's also exactly what a brainwashed person would say.
    </trollbait>
All this talk and arguing over the work you have to do to avoid it only further proves the point. Most people have no idea what any of you are talking about.

    Meanwhile, water is wet.
  • 1
    All of these do 😝
  • 0
@Jop- Yes. So? A phone is supposed to be used for calls and texts. These can still do it. And have removable batteries that last way longer than your high performance smart phone. A couple of these also come with dual SIM. What else do you need in a freaking phone?
  • 0
@Jop- If you don't trust SMS, don't use it. If you want to browse the internet, use something else that is customized for browsing the internet. If you think about it, smartphones are basically smaller tablets with SIM cards. If you want a good internet experience, use a PC or a tablet. If you own one. 😂

And haha no, I own an android phone which I use to browse devRant. These are just my precious treasures. I'm flaunting them. 😂
