I mean technically a rant about deleting your DevRant is still a rant...

I miss AIM.

Try Jenkins. Then you will appreciate how easy you have it.
-
Jeez. We get all you can drink kcups. Not as good as fresh ground coffee, but can't hate on unlimited free caffeine.
-
Hahahahahaha well see you complained so the manager promoted you to go fix what you complained about. Succeed in making those improvements and more pay raises will follow. Fail, and you better have that backup resume ready...
-
They might...Or they might borrow sections and improve on it. I've learned a lot from half baked git projects.

If you stare at the QR code long enough, you'll start seeing a secret Illuminati message.
-
Nah mine blocks much more than that. It's doing great.
-
How can I support this AI sentient being who will take over the world? Gotta be cheaper than what the current government costs to run.
-
It was suspicious because you posted nothing. Didn't you know you're supposed to instantly create a profile with pics, and geo-coords and follow at least 30 people in your first hour? N00b

But what if they were all read only devs? I could imagine this being just as bad if not worse.

for i in {0..10000}; do echo grep is better than elasticsearch > /dev/kmsg; done

This is kind of across the board. Drives me insane to see someone come out with a degree in computer science yet not know how to run simple commands at the Linux command line. Or even how to get their windows IP via command line...I hate how universities are allowing a degree program that doesn't teach basic commandline skills.

@Codex404 probably not long enough then...I think 2 sprints. But still seems like an awfully long time to devote to learning a system when it took a single Sprint planning for us to adjust to the modified point system.
-
My team slightly modified scrum because we found story points assigned were arbitrary and different depending on the person. It was taking too much thought and time to estimate the story points using the scrum scale, so we made our own. There are 10 workdays in a Sprint for us...We estimate 1 point per day we think a ticket would take. Then we also place more weight on estimates from the team mate most likely to pick up a ticket. Overall, we love Agile with our daily scrum sessions, and demos at the Sprint review have turned into an activity we actively look forward to. We used Kanban early on, and it was ok, but Agile with Sprints has been more motivating.

@Kahrazie that's insane. I think anything beyond an hour a day would make me want to kill my pair programming partner.

Makes perfect sense

Really and truly, use of a VCS should be mandatory in any college programming classes. Wonder how many years it's going to take for academia to realize this?
-
I'd be tempted to start googling articles on the pitfalls of being a micromanager and leave them laying around the office. In all honesty though, it sounds like he feels insecure in the roll and is trying to make up for it by being a good idea fairy. Have you thought about recording how much time it's taking you to try the crazy ideas? If you have logical stats to back it up, give him an estimate of how long research into xyz will take and then ask him which of your current features can be delayed into next release to make up for the time.
-
@Kahrazie how many hours are you putting in a week if 40 hours pair programming is mandatory? Or is every hour at work spent pair programming?
-
@DubbaThony legit I do like one feature of Windows 10...Windows subsystem for Linux 😂
-
@dr-ant Snapseed tools text. I was just planning on using something like paint to cover the names in black, but couldn't find a good app for that..
-
But this isn't stack overflow...
-
@endor sometimes I get a thingy when I reply to say I don't know them but never seen a flat out "report" feature
-
And here's another connection request. Please shoot me.
-
@biglars these are linked in connection requests in my inbox and it goes against my principles to accept. I only connect with people I know, period.

Ever tried for a job in the government sector (assuming you are in the US)? Most contractors want more experience and don't care about age because they can charge more. And most government agencies do the initial prescreen and interview via phone, so as long as you don't put dates of graduation on your resume and go back 20+ years on work history, you'll be fine.

80 seems a little excessive, but maybe they felt the class was lonely and underused so needed some more positive attributes?
