It is indeed council tax. It is bounded to the property value but the scale system is ridiculous. You’ll pay £200 for a room and £300 for a castle, so there’s not much you can do, unless I start living in a tent.

@lorentz no they are actually extremely high for middle class salaries, and the inflation kind of made it worst because even with more money from your employer, the tax thresholds didn’t move.
Plus there’s a lot of hidden taxes. For example, city tax is a £200 per month. I’d benefit from Hungary’s flat tax actually.

It’s actually not that expensive to check if a message is safe, all it takes is a smaller, way cheaper LLM. Besides, regardless if it’s enforced to be woke or not, check are still necessary to not get ChatGPT to teach kids (or adults) how to build bombs or start praising radical islam.

I think nowadays there’s not much to complain about. There’s many interoperable ways to install an app, evolution of machines made it so that static binaries are more common, Valve’s Proton is working like a charm, Nvidia makes almost good Linux drivers, 95% of most user’s activities happen in a bowser, or otherwise, on an Electron app. The only thing left really is a standard way to share screen, but a year or two ago, it was not working properly on MacOS and Apple lovers were still bragging that it was the best OS on earth.

Many reasons can explain that. The first one is that there’s less jobs.

The good news is that, while tech businesses have gone down, other companies need more and more software engineers. Don’t overlook those as they can be very interesting jobs.
Other reasons can be very trivial. Maybe you suck at interviews. Maybe your face is unpleasant to Karen of “talent team”, maybe you don’t sell your skills in a specific manner.
