Practical question: did anyone figure out how to pay less taxes in the UK (or somewhere else in Europe)?
I can’t lie it becomes pretty unsustainable…

    I always thought UK taxes were quite low, then again, I'm used to Hungary's flat rate tax system with deductibles which is pretty much optimized for oligarchs and their extended families.

    @lorentz no they are actually extremely high for middle class salaries, and the inflation kind of made it worst because even with more money from your employer, the tax thresholds didn’t move.
    Plus there’s a lot of hidden taxes. For example, city tax is a £200 per month. I’d benefit from Hungary’s flat tax actually.

    @Tounai I can see how specifying the tax bracket thresholds as constant values to be updated at will by some branch of the state backfired horribly. Is city tax the same as council tax or is it different? Is that the same 200 pounds for everyone or is it tied to like property value or something?

    @lorentz
    It is indeed council tax. It is bounded to the property value but the scale system is ridiculous. You’ll pay £200 for a room and £300 for a castle, so there’s not much you can do, unless I start living in a tent.
