If you worry about fuckups, imposter syndrome, then don't!
Just watch for example, senate hearings and people in the highests post behave like children, some are in charge of the military, others in charge of billions of $$$2 -
wow, using multiple LLMs in parallel instead of 1 serial LLM produces better results! who could have thought!!!!

god i am so fucking sick of this rat race
older devranters, is this really just ad nauseum hype repeats until i die? should i just stop raging at the universe and give up?2 -
I get plenty of sleep and wake up to my manager talking about escalating tickets. I'm on support this week and my queue was empty yesterday, but there were several new "urgent" requests that never got assigned to me.
Wait, so I'm responsible to assigning tickets to myself now? Our support is so shitty now. Our good document got hacked to pieces and now I can't find anything, and the customer support people are constantly bitching if things aren't done right now for tickets I was assigned while I was asleep.1 -
Starting a new job tomorrow after 4 months of unemployment. I'm not excited at all about this job. Gotta find where I stashed the clown face makeup so I'm all ready in the morning.2

I'd be lying to y'all if I said that a major part of me doesn't want to see the downfall of these "too big to fail" companies (Google/Apple/Microsoft).4

I hate low code products. How about I build some bloatware that's inefficient, expensive to host, and completely dependant on something that will be abandoned in 4 years.

I miss the good times when the web was lightweight and efficient.
I miss the times when essential website content was immediately delivered as HTML through the first HTTP request.
I miss the times when I could open a twitter URL and have the tweet text appear on screen in two seconds rather than a useless splash screen followed by some loading spinners.
I miss the times when I could open a YouTube watch page and see the title and description on screen in two seconds rather than in ten.
I miss the times when YouTube comments were readily loaded rather than only starting to load when I scroll down.
JavaScript was lightweight and used for its intended purpose, to enhance the experience by loading content at the page bottom and by allowing interaction such as posting comments without having to reload the entire page, for example.
Now pretty much all popular websites are bloated with heavy JavaScript. Your browser needs to walk through millions of bytes of JavaScript code just to show a tweet worth 200 bytes of text.
The watch page of YouTube (known as "polymer", used since 2017) loads more than eight megabytes of JavaScript last time I checked. In 2012, it was one to two hundred kilobytes of HTML and at most a few hundred kilobytes of JavaScript, mostly for the HTML5 player.
And if one little error dares to occur on a JavaScript-based page, you get a blank page of nothingness.
Sure, computers are more powerful than they used to be. But that does not mean we should deliberately make our new software and website slower and more bloated.
"Wirth's law is an adage on computer performance which states that software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware is becoming faster."

YouTube is trying hard to shove their video suggestions into my face.
Video suggestions are on the watch page, inside the video player after playback, and even inside the embedded video player when paused.
Sorry, YouTube, I am not interested in your suggestions before I have even finished watching the current video!15 -
This is me every day when i have to get up early to work for 8h a day for $8.125 an hour as a backend java + devops engineer (2 in 1 jobs)7

Microtransactions are ruining the AAA gaming industry. I have always liked a good fighting game. So I looked at Street Fighter 6. Base game is $60, better version is more, bestest version is way more. Plus from reading reviews the fucking game is riddled with microtransactions.
What happened to buying a fucking game and not feeling like you got ripped off? When you bought the fucking game you got the whole fucking game.
I am disgusted with what these big names are doing. Ruining a once less sketchy industry.
I have even seen games that start out good. Then after a few patches they introduce the microtransaction bullshit. The Conan games are like that. The main complaint is adding this bullshit for base game items.
I wonder how they think this is good for their player base. They just fired the dude at Unity over trying to fuck over customers. Of course the company cannot be trusted so a lot of bigger labels are jumping ship to other engines.
What kinda pisses me off is I will try and find a decent game on Steam and look and look and all I find is garbage. How did Steam turn into such a trash heap? I won't touch an EA game (which is where that CEO from Unity came from). It is too bad because I really liked Mass Effect.
tldr - gaming has turned into shit.8 -
Well that's new..
So I was sitting on a toilet, thinking about life and stuff and b2plane [because of obvious reasons], when suddenly... I felt a very sudden and very strong urge to... code something in perl.
I haven't touched perl in years, don't even remember its syntax [can u blame me though? It's perl], but there we go, an urge hit me.
As soon as I flushed, the urge went away.
@b2plane, I'm asking you as an expert of shit. What's it mean? Is this normal?4 -
Fuck you and your bullshit Teams meetings.
I hope you die a painful and slow death while your servers burst in flames and you hang yourselves.
You schedule 4 of them, then bitch about how developers aren’t getting any work done.
Maybe if you didn’t suffocate them with your bullshit meetings they would.
I am looking forward for the contract to expire or in this project so I can finally get some peace.
Fuck your stupid meetings. You deserve to be arrested and shot by the Gestapo (or KGB, whichever you find more evil).17 -
The most unrealistic deadline? Okay, here it goes. For context, this is one of my earliest jobs, and I’m actively using React.
— Kiki, I have a stunning idea! Let’s build a Figma clone!
— Okaaaay, 🧐
— You have two days.
— A what?
— I’ve just stumbled upon an amazing new technology. You maybe don’t know it yet. It’s called React.js, and you totally can build a full Figma clone in two days using it!
— …
— It’s a revolution, and you’re so ignorant for not following it. Are you even a real engineer?
— …
Two days later:
— Forget about Figma! Let’s build an online DAW for musicians!
That guy was nuts. I left when we had an executive meeting, I was explaining tech things, and he suddenly popped out a fucking tambourine and started striking it. One year later, he lost everything and went to get a junior C++ position at an outsourcing company.8 -
This fucking bitch whose whole linkedin consists of being a LAWYER, started a software company in 2021 and is now contacting me looking for (get this) a role where i have to work:
- devops
- python/django building backend
- machine learning
All of that has to be done by me, 1 person4 -
With a large caffeine high and an all day techno stream, I’ve managed to finally “get” docker after 4 years working with it4
