The other day, me and some university colleagues were discussing some app/game ideas to develop, and then here comes the "Stupid of the course", makes his way into the conversation and says this...
"I'm going to program Fifa since it's the same game every year"
-.-'' -
When I was in my first year in university, at the Introduction to Programming class, we had to do a Java project and my partner was someone who was always bragging about how much he knew about programming. Me being someone who was learning programming by the moment I started the course I thought he was going to help and teach me cool stuff.
The first phase was due to deliver in one week and literally my code was all original and my partners code was all copies of others work. Out project could'vw been graded 0 because of his code (because they used a programm that compared variables of each project to see if.they fins copies). He practically didn't gave the effort to try to code, just copies. I spent the whole week correcting his work so that I wasnt penalized in the end...1 -

Final tests were made to an app that I've helped developed at the company. Not only the payment tests worked smoothly, in the end it was announced that the app will be nominated for best European app in the category of Food & Drinks
So happy for being part of such a good project ^^ -
Been a mobile developer since April, liking the experience and the amount of projects that I've been a part of.
And one of the things that I've learned about this is that sometimes the client doesn't even know what he really wants. I mean for fucksakes, we implement everything, and new functionalities and there's always something that works on every other app (and is basically a standard) and he thinks is not suppose to be like that...
And another thing. Fuck Apple Store. At the company we've developed an app that practically shows information that only users should see (in our logic is sensitive information from our clients) and they DECLINED 4 FUCKING TIMES THE APP. Reason? Since the app's purpose "isn't correlated" with the basical information we show, the user can navigate through the app without going through login.
We basically added an "explore option" that shows basically nothing and they've accepted. FUCK APPLE FOR WAISTING OUR TIME AND THE CLIENTS TIME1 -

So the other day at my company we were talking about what we were going to talk at the IT Week in my former University. I was giving some ideas and talked about what other company's talked about and what was interesting for the students to hear.
While we were in the subject my colleagues searched some of the company's I've mentioned. We discovered that one of those company's had a Happiness Manager.
That was the first time I've heard of such an occupation. Like, is this a thing? An occupation to make other coworkers happy/ensure their happiness? -
*finished lunch*
*ready to go drink coffee*
*coffee machine was taken away for replacement*

WHY WERE YOU TAKEN AWAY? YOU WERE WORKING PERFECTLY 😭😭1 -
So... About a month ago 2 interns started a project from scratch at my company. My boss gave them a project to follow as an example (more for the api and database side).
Wednesday they ended the internship and I've began to help fix the rest of the kinks that were left to be fixed. Friday we were finishing up the app and api to send to the client for tests. The database was created with 4 tables that were equal in structure... Imagine that you need a table for orders and they have status like pending, cancelled, finished and accepted. What they've done was they created 4 tables, one for each status....
Why the hell would you do this???5 -
Today, me and my boss finally made an SDK work properly on power android and iOS project. This was one though week and a half.
Now the rant part. This took us 1 week and a half because the documentation wasn't entirely correct. The worst, and for me the most irritating part, is the fact that my boss had to be on the telephone with his contact of the other company (the one behind the SDK) only in the end to hear his contact talking to.one of their developers about the flow of the communication.
Long story short, after getting the result from the SDK, we should use that information in another service that's not specified the documentation!!!!
The most annoying is when my bosses contact said to the dev that the service wasn't in the docs, his response was
"One thing is the documentation, the other is real life"
Fuck you, you dev piece of shit, you've wasted over a week of my life trying to make something work following your shitty docs!!!! -
I've been since friday with my boss trying to implement bridge between an SDK of another company for Android and iOS (yes the project is in React Native).
Today I've managed to put all the code that is needed to make that bridge and made tests. But in order to test the SDK functions, we need the info that should be easy to request through a service... The service is made with soap, using a certificate .p12.
*No problem, follow the documentation and everything will be okay* I thought... Even the example request in the docs doesn't give a 200 response. And when we finally made a 200 request, it still returned and error code...
And this isn't even the best part. Today we talked to the person that has been collaborating with us, and even he says "Implementing with this company is always hard". Even their worker knows it!!!! -

That momento a friend show me a website that basically lists "last night" commits on projects on github. From what I've seen basically the list commits with words like shit, fuck and hell xD
Here's the link:

"Don't worry with that problem today, it's not critical"
And this is said in less than a week of deadline -
The only thing that sometimes bothers me about having IT knowledge (specially now that I'm officially an IT Engineer graduate) is that I still have friends that can't do simple things that they asked me when I was at highschool.
"My computer is not working", " I can't install this game", "My computer doesn't start".
Since I'm okay with helping others, I always try to help. The thing is that everytime I help is always something I google at the moment. And most of times is simple problems that don't even need to be googled2 -
So yesterday there was a discussion at my company about what would be more user friendly for deleting an item or items from a list. Long Press or swipe. We came to an agreement that depends on the UX and choice. What do you think?6

Am I the only who's having trouble with the devRant app. Before anyone says to me to send an email about the bugs I've been having, I already did.
I don't know why but sense the last update I'm just finding bug after bug. Is anyone having problem with the app or is it just me?4 -

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have on your current or past company like inspiring messages or something like that?
The image below is at the company I'm going to have my internship7 -
In the middle of the semester, my class and I are going to have a class about threads in Java. The teacher is at his normal days, 10 minutes later he just looks at us and says "Do you want to teach? Do you want me to teach today? You know what? I won't teach today. Let's talk about each other, I want to know you more. Tell about your hobbies, what do you do besides your student life?" 😂

My dev teacher for mobile was teaching us react native. I got an error while compiling it (missed a try catch in a function). My teacher only looked at my code and I hear her say to herself "no semycolon missing" and then she says to me, I don't know what's wrong...
Like... Are you seriously a teacher?2 -
Happy Birthday devRant. Still the best community for devs and future devs.
I hope this will still grow and become more recognized in the future1 -
Just received a connection request on Linked In of a Recruitment Consultant. Searched the company to see at least what they do and their official website is made by WordPress... I didn't even need to see the code of the first page to know that...2

I'm probably going to work on lots of projects in React Native, and a friend told to learn either Flux or Redux. He says they're different and equal ate the same. Which one would you consider I learn first? 😵3 -
Doing a WPF project for the admins Back Office work. Going smoothly and working, until someone says redo the hole thing, we made DB changes... Why 😢😢😢😢 so much time working to receive this news?1

Best: two actually, a java game that was customizable and had statistics (simples but was great) the other was my first android APP consistent of google maps API and QR code scanner.
Worst: still being made, my first project that consists of doing documentation from scratch about a web app in .net core, and it's giving too much work than it should for a university class project -
@dfox suggestion, when I'm in the "Top Rants" section, can it be able to swipe left or right to change the tabs Day, Week, Month, All. It would be more efficient to see other rants 😉3
