Welcome to Hacktoberfest. It will die down when the event is over. (Not a slight at Hacktoberfest, just some people want a reward for no effort)
-
Start with something simple, like a typo in the documentation, then maybe some extra documentation... then you fix a tiny bug... then a bigger bug... then just add that tiny feature someone want...
I’ve been a developer for 20 years, and my first public PRs were typos... a couple of months ago I added a kissing feature to Rails 6.0 -
Depends on the job and the company. My last job I would have stayed at indefinitely... but I was made redundant. The one before that I saw the signs after a year and was out by the end of the second.
I’d try and stay at lease a year or it looks like your a job hopper and harder to hire (unless you put “contract” next to it on your cv) -
They needed it signing today, until I needed to discuss a few points, then I haven’t heard since
-
@redman yeah, I’m going to make some “case studies” and quickly mock up an open source app to help
-
My happy place

@wholl0p Pareto is 80/20 ... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

It’s the 90 90 rule:
“The first 90 percent of the code accounts for the first 90 percent of the development time. The remaining 10 percent of the code accounts for the other 90 percent of the development time.”

@BitFlipped GDPR comes in to force on May 25th. If you do business with anyone in Europe you need to google that and panic
-
The EU is working on protecting privacy, because companies can’t be trusted.
The USA is working on destroying the internet, because companies can’t be trusted. -
At least now we know what caused the great AWS outage of 2016.

Thought this might have been my “stress ball” post, but looks like I fell short
-
Before you know it, this appears on your desk...
-
@honeyBadgerJeff Yes, but only because they figured out I'm in IT l, and needed help getting their printer working.

I am also a simple man. I see a truth of devRant and I upvote
-
@RodrigoF No, but I can't imagine it was the most life affirming experience to have me standing over his shoulder while he changed his password, while I mansplained 2 factor auth.

4. Have a recruiter strip it down to plain text, running the layout from in design and making you look like an idiot.
-
@dexie been in those shoes. It never changes, and it never feels good.
-
I hope you got a call at home, on a Sunday, to fix it and push it (untested) to production. How dare you make such a mistake. </sarcasm>
-
Not a problem when your in to the code, however throw kids in to the mix and your lucky to be awake at 10pm

All hail our rubber duck overlords

@jiraTicket None, it's just the dark theme that comes in macOS
-
I was running ImageOptim on around 2gb of images. (macOS)

Sounds like your spend too much time upgrading things on live projects. The cow maybe the only part of the rant you didn't cause yourself, or did you?
-
I can't help but notice Ruby is missing from that list. #alternativeTruth

And a curse for the person who inherits your code.
