I'm looking for a (second) VPS provider and stumbled upon one called SSDNodes. They have a 8GB RAM offer for $120/yr. Which sounds far better than the popular choices like DigitalOcean, Vultr, etc.

But the only reviews I can find about them are from their blog or some unknown websites.

Has anyone used them or heard about them? Also, any alternative suggestions? I'm going to be using it for Docker powered personal web projects. Not expecting a lot of users.

So my company hired this very old guy. The oldest developer I have worked with. I feel they took him just because of diversity.

Because he was absolutely incompetent.

Nothing he wrote ever worked, he got in conflict with everyone, made stupid jokes at meetings, asked the dumbest questions. His stories would hang for weeks, hopping sprint over sprint. Once he delivered something, his code had to be re-written from scratch. A code review couldn't even be applied as the code was worthless, so it just made sense to reassign his tasks to someone else and move on.

So after much drama he was let go. It was maybe two years ago and I recently connected with him on LinkedIn. He's changed four or more jobs since then. Prior to coming to our company he also job-hopped all the time (but most likely he was actually fired every time). His average job duration was like 6 months. Apart from that, he had a 20+ year stay with some government agency.

I fail to grasp how he ever gets hired anywhere with all the red flags. Over two decades with some govt agency (in my country they are all crap). Then change jobs every half an year or so. Then the asshole attitude. And finally, they probably never asked him any technical questions, because he knew nothing. Our interns who were just one month into the job were better by a WIDE margin.

Udemy is full of crap.

I got some course that had been "discounted" from $200 (I already mentioned it is an ugly trick) and it was over in like 20 minutes. The fuck?!

All the info they gave was either common sense or something you could find on the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article on the given topic (it was a soft skills course, not a technical one).

Just junk.

Maybe there are some gems out there, but I'm not sure I would risk it again.

Udemy feels like the Booking.com of courses in terms of deceitful UX, but it's not nearly as useful.

Maybe you guys have found something good there that you could say is a bargain? If so, please let me know.

How the fuck did my company decide a single toilet stall is enough? Are they really this cheap? Why must I go to the bathroom three times before I can actually use it? Please stop fucking asking me to install your shitty mobile apps. They do the same thing your site does. I have a browser, and it's a lot better. I don't even visit you every day. But even if I did, and I wanted your crappy app, I'd open the app store and download it by myself. No need to push me.

No need to waste the little screen estate I have with crappy call-to-action sections to download that shit.

Fuck your desire for more information about me. Fuck your narcissistic enjoyment when I have your icon on my fucking home screen.

The truth is, there is a very small number of apps that really need to integrate with a phone to offer better experience.

I feel most of you feel you need to have an app just because everyone else does. And so you could show these little Android and Apple logos on your website or ads. Well, how about you just make sure your site works well on a mobile screen and don't waste your money on a half-baked mobile shit app unless it really offers something worthwhile?

And if you do have a good app and it really does something, ask me just once and fucking respect my choice. Don't just ask me again and again, on every page, with every new session, or I'll just stop visiting.

I think tech recruiters will be among the first to have their job taken over by AI. Even I can write an "AI" that goes through LinkedIn profiles, doesn't read them at all, and sends their owners a job posting chancing it might be relevant.

Probably the only reason it hasn't happened already is LinkedIn's TOS.

I usually hate Microsoft but they've gotten me positively surprised several times lately. I can run an SSH server and Redis just like that!

My company just released its website today. Previously, it just used its parent company's site.

Now, the problem is that it sucks big time. Awful design, pixelated stock photos, bad navigation, and broken grammar.

In the company's defence, it's not a web shop. It employs zero web devs. The site was built by an external company.

But if you are like me, you visit company websites before you apply for a job, and in this case, it would bed a big red flag.

Or maybe the hard-core embedded devs they are looking to employ wouldn't notice? Maybe they are all stuck in the year 2000 as well? I used to be a web developer so maybe my criteria are broken?

Cisco Jabber is a load of shit. I don't really know how to get chat logs with people I haven't added to contacts from the UI. So I just open the SQLite database it saves locally to read. Every single IM entry contains a ton of HTML/CSS to keep formatting. Who writes software like that!

Go is quite an awesome language if I ignore the actual code to "if err != nil" ratio.

What might be a legit reason to commit a target directory with thousands of compiled crap the code in the very same repository generates? Why the hell would anyone want to do this?
