Udemy is full of crap.

I got some course that had been "discounted" from $200 (I already mentioned it is an ugly trick) and it was over in like 20 minutes. The fuck?!

All the info they gave was either common sense or something you could find on the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article on the given topic (it was a soft skills course, not a technical one).

Just junk.

Maybe there are some gems out there, but I'm not sure I would risk it again.

Udemy feels like the Booking.com of courses in terms of deceitful UX, but it's not nearly as useful.

Maybe you guys have found something good there that you could say is a bargain? If so, please let me know.

Ah yes, Udemy. Can someone explain how you can learn programming from watching other people program?

@Nilo-jxn A book is designed to give textual examples and invite the user to follow along, review and finally wet their feet with exercises or small projects.

Most of the videos I've seen on Udemy (and youtube) simply features a person giving an explanation and their viewers are supposed to (try) follow along. After following a 50-part Angular tutorial on Udemy, then what are you supposed to do? Some pages like KhanAcademy offer additional resources and exercises alongside their instructional videos.

@theuser I see your point. And I deleted my comment because I tagged the OP with a non related suggestion on accident.

But yeah, I only own one course on Udemy ,but it was still helpful when starting out to get a great overview of the entire process quickly. Then I use text content while learning and grasping specifics. But thanks for a better explanation.

OK, +1 to Udemy. They refunded my 10 bucks, no questions asked, and I think this is a very good gesture on their side.

So maybe I'll look at something else...

Udemy is a mixed bag. Sure, some of the content isn't great, but if you're a visual learner and you find the good courses, they're well worth the sale price. And the courses are on sale a lot, so it's just a matter of biding your time.

I bought one of those practice exam packages on Udemy ... it turned out to be wet garbage!

Upon taking the first couple of tests, I noticed a lot of errors in the scoring of the test, for example, when I got a question right sometimes it marks it as wrong. For example question 68 in Practice exam 2 on Digital Rights Management says "which of the following technologies is used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders and individuals to impose limitations on the usage of digital content and devices?"

I answered "Digital rights management" but was scored as incorrect. "Grid computing" was marked as the correct answer which is obviously wrong. There were many other examples of this, to the point where I can't really trust that the software that marks the answers right/wrong is not totally broken.

I got a good discount on the package but still it was disappointing.
